Parents do enough griping and cursing over Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld etc... and it's bound to filter through to their kids. It's not just Canada that this is happening, it's a lot of countries. Fact is, the political mindset of most kids is formed by the opinions of their parents.
Arrogance isn't the answer. It certainly does matter what that many kids think, especially when so many Americans basically share that view of their own country or at the very least it's present leaders.
I for one have always recognized the great contributions the US has made the world over in the last 100+ years, but this attitude of "who gives a shit what non-americans think" has got to go.
