If your going to Thailand Places to visit in Bangkok -
PatPong, NanaPlaza and Soi Cowboy for the red light areas.
As a newbi in patpong it's best to stick to bard that are owned by the kings group, look out for the "KG" logo on the bars

Get out of Bangkok and see the North, South...Transportation is cheap, comfortable and works well so you can take an overnight sleeper-car train to anywhere and arrive fresh in the morning. Get off the tourist path and meet people and explore less touristy places so you can mingle more freely with the locals... My biggest tip is to take a few days and head east from Bangkok to Cambodia and see Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia. That was the highlight by far of my 3 month backpacking trip. After Ankor Wat you take a boat to the capital Phenom Peng and spend a few days there and then you can go down to their little seaport in Suhkumvit and take a boat back to Thailand and hang out on an island in the east like Ko Chang before heading back to Bangkok. This route take a lot of effort and is not luxury accomodations and living but its memorable.Comment

Yeah man, never take the first Tuk Tuk when you come outside a hotel. They just wait on you and ask about 200-300 bath per rit.

If you're planning to do some fishing you should go to Phuket and then go the '' Pee Pee islands ''
You can rent a boat there and dive or fish, it's beautifull
( airplane from bangkok to phuket cost about $100-$125 and takes about 45 min not sure about the price been awhile )

If you're going to Chiangmai take the night train instead of the airplane. It's much cheaper and the train is filled with hot chicks aswell ( always a plus ) The trip takes about 10-12 hours and you can sleep/eat and even go to the bar in the train. It's a pretty cool trip the train is filled with thai people you're almost the only white guy in the train so everyone like to talk to you ect. ( about 2,5 year agow )

My hotel was Jomtien Garden Resort Pattaya hot pool, good rooms about 20 meters from the beach and the fun.
Taxi to city, shopping centre, bars & clubs about 50 bath and about 5 min drive.

1) Stay out of Patpong. It's a tourist trap and they will nickel and dime you to death. Trust me, hit Nana Plaza or Soi Cowboy if you want to go to these areas. Though I will warn you that the music they play in most of these places is God awful.
2) Owe it to yourself to get a "soapy" from Mona Lisa or Darlings or many of the other "fish bowl" places. If you can, find out where you are going BEFORE you get in the cab and get dropped off before it so they don't add the taxi's "finders fee" to your bill.
3) Never take a cab that is just sitting there or refuses to turn on the meter. They are scum and bottom feeders who wait for newbies.
4) Try to not use tuk-tuks. If you must, negotiate a price BEFORE you get in, and bargain hard.
5) Bargain on everything except food. I always counter offer with 40 - 50% lower than what they ask. Some will bite. Some will laugh. But never take thier first 2 offers.
6) Learn the numbers and basic greetings and thanks. Smile, Smile and Smile.
7) Wear a condom, but if you like to bareback... They will. Just remember they also do with everyone else.
8) Never kiss a Thai because most of them eat bugs.
9) Try to spend no more than 3 days in Bangkok and get the hell outta there. Head far north, or far south.
10) Must see: Kho Phi Phi Don, Chang Mai, Krabi, Muy Thai boxing match, Sukothai, Grand Palace, Kho Tao, a lady boy show, Pang-na Bay (James Bond Island), Maya Bay (from "The Beach" - go very early or late to avoid mass people), and the Golden Tri-Angle.
11) Must look out for: LADYBOYS!!! If they look to good to be true and are coming on to you... it's a guy. No matter how good you think you are at spotting them, some of them you can not.
12) If you have the time, fly into Siem Reap, Cambodia and see Ankor Wat. Truly amazing. Burma is incredible as well. Travel agents are everywhere there and flights are cheap.
13) Eat at the Shangri-La (Bangkok) on the river at night.
14) Use lots of DEET "yoong" spray and buy coils to burn in your room at night.
15) DO NOT even brush your teeth in the water. Bottled water for EVERYTHING!!!!!! Read this one a few times.
16) Do not fuck with drugs over there. They will lock your ass up for a LONG time.
17) Don't fuck any kids. A long stay at the "Bangkok Hilton" will follow.
18) Watch your pockets when approached by ladyboys. They will pick them.
19) Do not say anything bad about the Royal family or the King. It will cause major problems for you.
20) Save 500 baht for your departure tax at the airport.
