It's about not being afraid to spend a few hundred bucks to get started.
My best advice to make it is:
- buy your own domain name
- get your own hosting, don't use free hosting
- spend $100 on content, don't use free content
- spend $50 on google adwrods
That should be like $200 total...
Then, create maybe 10 free sites and submit them whereever you can over a period of 10 days. Combined with the google traffic you should start seeing sales.
Use the content to also create maybe 10 tgp galleries and use GallerySubmitter.com to submit them for free.
Then you should be off to a good start.
Point is, get your OWN unique content AND your own domain hosting. AND be very persistent. Don't give up just because the 30 or more different colors you used on your first site produced dismal results; try different angles and stick to what was successful.
I know, easier said than done, but it CAN be done

Have a look at link-o-rama.com or whereever - shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes max to create a free site; don't make it the pride of your life, make it a page that's meant to drive surfers to your sponsor - no one cares how beautiful it is, they want to see the pics - nothing more, nothing less.
