For a magazine, best so far. I might submit an entry if I'm not too lazy and the contest is still going
i have to disagree on part. if i out-right purchase a logo/design/stock art, i am in no way obligated to give anyone credit for it. if someone does something on discount or for free for me or with an agreement that they will get full credit, then i am obligated to credit them for their design.
i will agree on the contest statement...
Puleeeze, I wouldn't do a logo for a major magazine for $100 if the sheriff was after me.
Professional work calls for professional prices. If I create a logo fo a major corporation you bet your ass I'd better be credited for it.
These cheapy logo contests are indicative to what's wrong with the graphics field. Too many cheap bastards looking for whatever scraps they can get jumping at any chance they can get.
Outsourcing to third world artists who'll work for a bowl of borst or rice? Now you know why Disney and WB's animated film ain't makin' shit at the box offices anymore.
I'm all for a company promoting and having fun but there's no way in hell I can agree with you here Bret.

what are you talking about? if i pay someone to create art for me, and they accept the job, and i pay them in full, i own the artwork. i can say i created it if i choose to, or i can give them credit for it. it may be dishonest, but i own the rights to that artwork and i can do with it as i please. bottom line is when you pay someone to create a product for you it becomes your product. if you obtain it through a contest, you damn well better at least credit them for what they did, but again, you arent obligated, whatever the terms of the contest may be.
also... i was bashing the contests. i think they are a cheap way to get a variety of otherwise expensive products.

I just realized my mail server for smutgiant.com is fucked up. if you need to, contact me at andrew at spincities dot com
I agree that $100 isnt the biggest payout. But I think the winner will be very happy with the credit and the relationship that will come out of it. Like you said.. it's not that very hard of a design.. its really quite simple.. its just that we want to see all kinds of different approaches.. which is what contests are great for.
It's the simplicity that's important, so saying that it's simple means nothing. Some of the largest fortune 500 corporations logos are the most simple out there. Simple is worth more if you ask me.
The Teacher Asks Little Johnny, "What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up?"<br>Little Johnny Replies, "A Doctor."<br>The Teacher, Not Being Able To Understand How This Little Devil-kid Would Want To Help People, Asks, "A Doctor? You? Why Is That?"<br>Little Johnny Grins And Responds, "Because It's The Only Profession Where You Can Tell Women To Take Off Their Clothes And Then Stick Their Husbands With The Bill."
All those logos were terrible, that's why you offer more than a cheap ass $100 bucks for a contest
Why do people think that by throwing a "contest" they can get design work done for cheaper than the good guys would normally charge?! I guess what you pay for, is what you get...and if you wanna skimp and spend $100 on a logo for the front page of a magazine...you're gonna get a shitty logo!
