if you copy/paste/copy/paste/copy/paste/ until you have 1000 lines of codes it gets ugly real fast...

I've used JEdit for PERL, C++, Java, Tcl/TK, HTML, a tiny bit of PHP and regular editing. It's pretty kickass; the plugins are sweet.

EditPlus is also good.
