Top story on Sports Illustrated College Football page says
USC has won their last six games by scores of 44-21, 45-14, 43-23, 43-16, 45-0 and 47-22, so it's easy to see why, to the naked eye, they're the more powerful team.
The reality, however, is that only one of their opponents during that stretch has a winning record.
USC is No. 2 in the latest BCS standings released on Monday. But SI.com's Stewart Mandel says don't write off LSU, which could have a better Sugar Bowl claim than the Trojans.

When you step back and look at the big picture this year in college football, you have to say that it has been a pretty sub-standard year in general for teams overall. Besides the stand-out Sooners of course, no team really jumps off the map at you for a strong second. USC has looked pretty good, but against shit opponents. Oklahoma would rock them. LSU is having a good season, but I can TOTALLY see them blowing it against Georgia in Atlanta in a couple weeks, if they do match up (which it looks like they will). LSU could have easily lost to them at home earlier this year, and overall i like GA's team better. I think LSU, if they should somehow jump USC and win out, would give the Sooners a better game than the Trojans, but I dont think it would be all that close. Barring a slip up, I think that the end of this season we will all be saying that the 2003 Sooners team was one of the more dominant teams in recent college football memory, the most so since those Nebraska criminal teams of the 90s.
By the way, calling the SEC a weak conference is funny funny stuff.LOVERCASH.COM

The SEC is EASILY the strongest conference every year. The Big 12 blows -- Texas got mauled by a 3rd Tier SEC team, Arkansas; a dismal (for the SEC) Alabama played Oklahoma to a 20-13 score. LSU beat Alabama 27-3 (bama scored with time running out). Oklahoma has been running the score up on who? No one good.
The PAC 10 has nothing. USC lost to a piece of crap California team with a losing record.
The Big 10? Haha OSU has been barely squeaking by teams like Bowling Green (with help from the officials usually) for 2 seasons now.
The SEC has 4 teams in the top 11: LSU, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida. How is that a soft conference? And look who Florida plays(ed) this year (ranked teams only): Miami, Tennessee, Mississippi, LSU, Georgia, Florida State.

1. SEC

Any team that has to play Florida State and Miami every year already has a strength of schedule higher than any PAC 10, Big 10, or Big 12 team. Then throw in Tennessee, and LSU, a Georgia, one of the Alabama teams, one of the Mississippi teams... No one in the country has a stronger schedule year in and year out.Originally posted by CraigA
