bank gave me a fake $20 bill

So I went to buy a pack of smokes yesterday, give this lady the bill and she's like, you have any other bills. I'm like, excuse me?
She goes, I don't trust this one and throws it back at me.....so I figure the bitch is a moron and pay with the credit card. Then I went for a coffee with a couple of friends, and while I'm telling the whole story to my friend, the counter girl hears me and offers to take the bill to the back, where there's a special machine that checks the bills and what do you know, IT IS FAKE. The funny thing is I took out that bill from a bank machine the day before that.....can this really happen?

FUCKED. I want my 20 bucks back

Get your receipt from the bank - go to your branch and tell them to check the bill - tell them you got it from their bank machine & that you want it changed since more than one person has told you it's fake: they will take it back, send it to their central cash and then the RCMP - your information will also be taken in order for the RCMP to contact you if necessary.

I generally count my money in front of the machine - so their cameras (when they have one) can get a look at the serial numbers before I go - JUST IN CASE - don't want to be accused of anything nor fucked over my hardearned cash.

they checked it out and sayed

"sorry, here is a new one"

I find it hard to believe your bank gave you a fake $20. Money exchanged within banks go through thourough processes. Theres a very slight chance this could happen. I know what its like to be hastled by the FBI, Secret Service, Law Enforcement and other investigators. When i was 14 I was arrested in a counterfit money ring here. I happened to have some counterfit money on me that I had received from someone I knew, (unknowingly), in my wallet. Was with few friends at the mall and my buddy took a $20 out and handed it to the cashier, chick yelled "this is counterfit, this is counterfitt, call security, call security". We didnt know what to think and naturally being 14 and scared we bolted outside only to be surrounded on all 4 sides by mall security. Got interrogated by them and a punk ass cop. I was interrogated while having my father present by the US Secret Service and local FBI the next day. I had thought i also received the money from the bank and tried explaining this to them. They explained to me that this is NOT possible and that all money received is ran through machines for testing along with other processes. Ended up going to Juvy and then got 450 hours community service and was put on probation till I was 18. Ended up getting watched by them for a while, phones tapped and more. Nasty mess..

If i were you id just toss that bill in the trash unless you want to let it be known to them and get hassled regardless of your innocence.

This is actually standard policy from some banks. The fake bill is checked for fingerprints and the people who handled it are interviewed. I'm not sure if they're as successful prosecuting lone incidents like this than they are with huge counterfeiting operations. Nevertheless, the Secret Service goes through this process. It all depends on what the bank does to start the process.

I had this happen at a bank machine in the usa and they gave me the same story. Its impossible sir we dont make errors. Im like look bitch i just got the money out of your atm 10 minutes ago and now im told its fake so whats up ?

Not only that she wouldnt give me the $20 back she said they have to hold all counterfeit money. And they called the cops and notified ss.

Nobody ever contacted me back though.

I remember watching this cops one time where a guy had one of those fake $20 ad flyers that have like a part of a $20 bill on the end but when you unfold it its just a flyer for some pizza place or something. Well the cops had a revers crack sting setup they were selling crack to people and then arresting them , so this guy pulls up in a truck and has the bill all folded up and the cops sell him the crack and try to grab him but he takes off like a bat out of hell int he truck , almost kills 2 cops by running them down.

Also that reminds me of another stupid cops show where this lady calls up and complains that she just bought crack off some guy and he sold her drywall crumbles and she wanted her money back LOL

Fuck now i cant stop laughing . Those remind me of yet another stupid cops show where this cop gets a house on fire call and he shows up and it looks like this ladies house is on fire in the back so he is frantically trying to wake the old bird up , and you can hear the old lady screaming inside and he is like " its the cops your house is on fire " and she is like " no it isnt " and he proceeds to smash out all her windows on her door one at a time ( god knows why because he couldnt reach thru the tiny glass holes ) then finally some other cop comes running around the corner and is like " man thats the wrong house " so the old lady is scared shitless at this ponint freaking out and the cops like . sorry maam and leaves the old lady with all her windows smashed out .

some of the counterfeit detection machines in the u.s. react if the bill has had bleach on it, so if someone washes the bill in their pants pocket, it will show up on those machines as fake

btw, i used to work at a club in l.a. near the airport. bank gave us fake $20s all the time. if you returned them, they kept them and gave them to the secret service.
