just got off the phone with them and no rooms at internext will be allowed to have more than 20 people in them otherwise they will call the cops

to hold any type of 'party' you have to have a booth at the show or they will call the cops

tough shit i wont be blackmailed into buying a booth when i dont need one

keep an eye out about a party at one of the clubs in the area i would rather pay extra and get a high class location for an event rather than be extorted into buying something that i dont need from avn

the hun gets revenue from pre-paid gallery placements on the top 15 spaces and banners.
the rest of thegalleries are free placements.

i have a bigass corner suite reserved & i cant do shit with it.

they called the cops on us last year because of "fire hazards" and that kinda crap. but its just avn trying to control every penny at that show.

Might as well put my two cents in.. got a corner suite, not planning on having a party and no booth this show, but if we want to we should be able to do that we want.

Secondly got an email today from the Westin wanting us to sign a cc authorization form but whould not tell me for how much. Having numerous rooms would be nice to know what they wnated to charge, when I called them got several different reason for why this was.

1. they have always done it, not so, never in the past at this hotel or any other Starwood we have stayed at.

2. because it was a suite and "they the hotel" required it.

3. AVN wants all the suites PAID for in advnace.

FYI Last year when I was checking out I had a $95 dollar room service for the morning I was checking out, 7 am, well I was not up, did not eat and did not order so they took it off the bill. About 2 monts later they put it back on the american express I guess hoping I would not notice.

SO CHECK YOUR BILLS not that I think they would try to steal from any of us : )

yeah they sent me a prepay form as well... said it has to be paid in full no later than 10 days before checkin.... didnt say how much it was for tho... gonna call starwood tomorrow. i stay with them enough, they should be kissing my ass.

sounds like a threat to me- plan your party and go nuts anyway. they'll send the security a few times before any cops show up and you can see how long you can push it for. the over/under depends on who else is near your room. i had a whole floor moved at the venetian to keep my parties going til 9am when karl bernard would show up with 10 hungry canadians. don't believe the anti-party hype imho. the new generation of webmasters has a responsibility to throw some sick in-room parties.

You could try the new club that Tommy Lee just opened "The Rok Bar" or there's a couple of strip clubs down there. One is really close to the hotel and it's called Tootie's or Tootsie's. One from last year was the Solid Gold Club but it was really crowded when you got all the WM's shoved inside...

The local PD is pretty damn kewl from my experience...
..in fact, they have a mini lotto at the PD station to determine who is going to work INTERNEXT

.. they are not just gonna show up in your room.. they are summoned. Usually after the hotel security found troublesome parties....

also, last year the hotel security was on FRS radio channel 4

The seperate reservations absolutely kill me. Apparently it is a Hotel policy. I can't see why they will not allow you to book all the rooms under one reservation ID with one name. Last year, they screwed it up. I called to confirm this year, and guess what? Screwed up. They need to condense that deal.

As far as holding parties is concerned, I agree with XPays. I also agree with Sleazy about most of the action occurring outside the Hotel premises. Our party is at a strip club.

Don't be an AVN hater. They run a business. They have to cover themselves liability-wise with the hotel so don't blame them for actually needing to have rules.

Yeah, they make you pay up front but that is only because they are used to people flaking... go figure...

Pay some respect to the fact that they put on such a huge show for the benefit of the entire industry. The fact that they put on the show means you have a place to come and do business face to face with tons of potential prospects in the first place.

No one is saying you can't throw your own party. They are just saying that if you want to do it in the hotel that they arrange and hold responsibility for then you have to play by their rules. What is so unreasonable about that?

Gonna throw my in here ...

We had this problem last year ... AVN told us no-go on the in-suite party. Called the hotel. They said the same thing.

After actually getting to the hotel and checking out the corner suite vs. the rooms we actually had the party in, I can see why they said no.

There isnt really enough room in these suites to throw a party ... a small gathering, sure ... but a party ... no way ... the room would get destroyed, the furniture, the rugs etc etc etc and people would be crammed in like sardines.

I think that making you have a booth reawlly sucks, but, if thats what you want to do, then you should def. go offsite ... gives people a chance to get out of the hotel anyways

I think his stuff sucks but it does sell still to the bookstores which is how they generate those lists. True, the lists are not scantron generated but it is the best anyone can do with the cards that have been dealt under those circumstances.

This is kind of silly. It was the corner suite that I reserved for the Gay Webmaster Parties that was shut down by the hotel and the Hollywood PD. it was not as a result of a call from AVN. It was because I had over 100 people in a room designed for 20.

Chad Beecher from AVN actually saved my ass and got the hotel and PD to leave us alone for the remainder of the evening. Prior to his intervention they were telling me I was going to jail etc.

so this year the hotel made the rule about parties in suites, not AVN. so we are renting larger hospitality suites for the purpose and everything is cool.

No conspiracy.

I think his stuff sucks but it does sell still to the bookstores which is how they generate those lists. True, the lists are not scantron generated but it is the best anyone can do with the cards that have been dealt under those circumstances.

no I look out for the small companies out there. I don't hate them cuz they make money. They have a monopoly and they take advantage of it. that's all

I have to agree with on kearns. he's the best thing that could have happened to AVN. The old CEO was bad IMO

If they have a monopoly then how do you explain Clicks Magazine?

There is no monopoly. They just were the first to the game and have done it better, longer, and bigger than anyone else.

Bottom line, they bend over backwards for "the little guy" every day. Unfortunately, time and time again, those "little guys" bite the hand that feeds them.

Ok I understand the "rules" set forth by the hotel. However, from what I can gather, it's ok to break these rules if you have a booth? Correct me if I am wrong here. And if that is the case it really does suck!

And please, they are making money off of it just like anyone else. It may not be much, but they are not walking away empty handed.

I have very public record of my criticisms and compliments of AVN so don't play me as a shill until you get the facts straight....

In any event, wouldn't you say Klixx competes fairly directly with AVN ONLINE and that it is not owned by AVN? That dispels the notion of any sort of monopoly, doesn't it? Anyway, just because no one else can do what they do doesn't mean they have a monopoly.
