Someone should SUE EPSON.

Epson printers and non-epson printer cartridges. UGH.

Epson has their little chip on the carts to identify non-epson ink.

You pop a non-eposon cart in and eposon pops up a little "WARNING! This is non-epson ink.. it could screw things up and it voids your warranty!"

If Epson can identify the non-epson ink, then they can run shady routines to CREATE PROBLEMS with that ink.

And I believe that they do just that.

My problem is I'll get lines through the output... but it will always be in the same places in the document.

The only way to being to clear it up is by wasting 75% of your newly installed cartidge via the "head cleaning" process.

I've read where people say its because of the difference of ink, but I've used the same after market brands consequtively and have had the SAME 75% dump requirement before it started printing right.

Printers are basically given away these days because the inkjet cartridge market is so lucrative. They combine 4 colors into one cart, so when one runs out you have to replace them all. In many cases the printer is cheaper than its cartridge.

THey charge $30, $40, $50 for someone that costs them $2.

Others are willing to sell you the carts at a smaller markup but I believe Eposon does their part to make sure you go through hell.

Anyway thats my rant for the morning.

well everyone told me to buy epson.. but nothing struck me as "good quality" with their printers... i opted for a HP psc 2210 all in one... takes any carteridge..even has a special photo carteridge you can buy to print out photos in better quality..

when i was walking thru the store.. i had two people tell me how much they loved the printer is was about to buy...it gave me the thumbs up i needed..

write epson and tell them their fucking bullshit stinks.. maybe they will send you a bunch 0f free carteridges

I use a HP Deskjet for my photo/color printing.... Hardly every use it but its there.

I bought a Lexmark 1650 Laser printer off ebay for $80 which is what I use to print everything off of. It is a work horse, and I have only used one toner ($49.99) off ebay and that was about 20k prints ago.

try using Canon instead. A have a Canon Bublejet 4200 series I bought in 1998. Works wonders for me still. Just don't buy any
refill or non-canon ink cartridges.

I had the same problem with the non-epson cartridges. But I found This Site All of their ink is printer specific, and the cartridge has a new chip in it. They work like a champ for me. They are more expensive than other sites, but cheaper than buying an epson cartridge.

I gave up on inkjet technology about two years ago. For the price of 2 cartridges you can get a workhorse laser jet off eBay. The choice is simple.

I couldn't possibly know what I'm talking about, I'm completely, absolutely and definitively out of my fucking mind.

The worst quality printer award goes to.... LEXMARK! They have the worst printers on the market for quality. Damn cheap pieces of shit.

SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.

Lasers & toner is a different beast.

This is specifically a problem with Eposon and their way of dealing with their competitors. Hmmmmmmmmm unfair business practices maybe?

I have an epson. And thats the whole message behind this post -- you should damn well be able to buy and USE non-epson or non-caon or non-whoever ink carts.

I wonder if its an unfair business practices or antitrust issue? Maybe it could be if you were in the business of selling or manufacturing inkjet cartridges.

You shouldnt be bullied into having to use their carts via crooked routines in the firmware designed to identify 3rd party ink carts.

How would you like it if your Honda would only get you 25mpg with Honda gas that is sold to you at $25/gallon?

But if you tried to use the normal gas that everyone else trades @ $2/gallon Honda made it so you would only get 2 miles to the gallon?

Did you buy the consumer line or commercial line of printer from them? I have the Optra S 1650 and the thing is an awesome workhorse and for $80 can't go wrong..

I only owned one epson before and that was an old dot matrix printer, way back when the Tandy TL1000 was the top of the line computer =)

This is bullshit used by the printer companies to scare you to buy their inks.
My dad is in the ink jet manufacturing biz.
He told me how this went round and round along time ago with lawsuites, and the printer companies lost, but still to this day they use that bullshit on people.

I'm sure your dad knows - it's big, BIG business (at least it is for the printer mfgs).

Those carts cost < $1 to make and they sell them for $20, $30, $40+ and it's a consumable

This is why I suggest that if they can IDENTIFY your aftermarket cart, they can have the printer use a different routine for the print jobs while the competitors carts are in the machine.

I used to own epson printers but every one failed in exactly the same way. I talked to an Epson rep at a store once and told him how my printers failed and that they suck. He told me he'd never heard of the problem before but then went over to a display model and guess what... it was doing EXACTLY the same thing as mine!

I bought an HP that day and made sure the rep saw me!

If the printer is making the exact same mistakes on each page (or evry few pages) try a different cable. We've had that happen on everything from dot matrix to inkjets, and different brands. It always cleared it up for us anyhow.

But like I said, it starts functioning properly again only after you have cleaned the heads to the point to where 75% of the ink is wasted in the head cleaning process (about 10-15 head cleanings).. this wastes all the other colors ink as well.

Epson makes you pay for not buying their ink.

Anyway I have an idea here.. I'm going to try to use some generic drivers and uninstall all of their ink monitoring crap (printer cartridge spyware?).

If that doesn't work, then I'm going to swap the chips from the old cart to the new to prove my point.

If either fixes this 'problem' I'm going to be pissed
