These events most probably have deeper roots than we think and i believe related with the current political status there.
Some "part" (not political one) steadily loses power and plans to regain it by disturbing the whole country and not only. It won't take much time till will be able to see this clearly.

My wife is from Turkey...and so these news items concern me as well.
Turkey has somewhat of a blackout on news going on right now... my wife called to talk to her mother, and she said that 2 other locations in istanbul were hit....Taksim was one, can't remember the other.

Turkey was given alot of flak by the media because it didn't allow the US to pass through to get to northern Iraq... an overwhelmingly large majority of the population didn't want to get drawn into the terrorist war... and the irony is that they have not escaped the brutality of their fellow muslims.
I am sure these bombings will change the atitudes of many Turks that they need to now get involved in the war against terror, since it has been imported to their country.
