How easy is it to get high-speed net access there? Like if I rented an apartment in Amsterdam, would I be able to get some form of DSL or cable net access hooked up fairly quickly?
Dutch people! I have a question

Cable and ADSL is very common in Holland,.
if you have telephone you have DSL,
if you have TV, you have cable...
shouldn't give you any problems...
you would have it in about three/four weeks, i don't know if that is quick enough for you? -
i had PROBLEMS getting hookd up in amsterdam
i got here new years, an apartment by mid jan, and i needed a fat connection preferably 512k/1mbit+ upstream, the only choice for that was dsl at the time... WELL. KPN wants you to have a telephone for at least 2 months before they consider you for dsl , it costs 500euro+ in deposits and installation fees for a non-resident to get a phone, FUCK THEM. anyway after the 2 months you have to wait another month for installation which costs 2-300$ and then another 100-200$/month for the kind of bandwidth i needed.
alas, my apartment already had cable so i went to chello and they were able to get it installed in about 3 weeks (after missing the first appointment) and finally got that service installed which sucked, 1mbit down 128kbit up.. and i suffered with that until they finally offered 3mbit downa nd 380kbit up which is much more reasonable, i paid 35$/month originally and 80$/month for the improved speeds.. and no install fees...
basically it took me from new years till the 2nd week in feb to get on the internet. it was traumatic. the trick is to find an apartment that already has the shit hooked up and included with utilities in your rent.
