Yeah I mean I know what they charge or work for on the freelance sites... usually winds up working out to $5-$10/hour and the work is sometimes good, sometimes bad & sometimes great.
I guess I'm just curious what kind of wage that is in Russia.
Like how much does a house or apartment cost there?
How much is the average trip to the grocery store for your family?
Stuff like that.
I mean if you had $1500/mo in russia can you live like a king? $2000? $2500? $5000?

You can hire cheap russian programmers, designers, support team etc, but you won't be able to comunicate with them. Plus you gotta have some "connections" to know 100% that nobody will fuck you over : )
when i lived in ukrian three years ago the pay for most was around 80.00 a month yes you saw it right , my exwife was a doc there and here pay was around 200.00 a month she did modeling for avon and another womens makeup company and they would pay her 15.00 $ a day to work as well
sad shit man , things there are very very tight . I would go and gamble and take like 300 to 500 bucks with me , and people there think you was rich to do that .
people there are ether very rich , or just poor , there is no other way .

Am I the only one getting the idea of moving there and getting a nice bunch of personal employees?
Ok, I'm from Russia, I can tell you.
In Sain-Petersburg and Moscow average wages are about $300-$500/month, other cities: $100-$200/month. But most people in Internet are from the first two cities Programmers here have about $200-$800/month in different companies.
Apartments here cost about $500/m*m, so small 1 room apartment will cost about $7-$10K.
Trip to a grocery in our family about $50-$100/week (but we have more, than average income in our family.)
About programming. If you need a russian custom programming, I have a small company, we can make it
Average wage doesn't mean anything. Ppl earn what they deserve. Most of Russian and Ukrainian workers have very low wage but they aint worth shit either. I'm currently in Ukrainian city where an average salary is something like 80-150 bucks, I'm not sure about exact stats, but something around that. But all my friends who are really good with what they do all earn at least $500, even working on this poor market. Those who are good with internet and English earn more.
Good programmer in Moskow actually earn $2000+, I'm familiar with couple of those. Those programmers who agree to work for you for $500 living in Moskov aint worth even those $500, trust me.
And life is pretty expensive. Indeed, you can live in a crappy appartment, drink spoiled water, eat shitty meals and all that just for $100-$150 monthly, but decent living that is a norm in western countries is a luxury here, because of poverty. And a luxury always costs a lot. I can't fit in less than $500 monthly, even though I don't have a car and very discreet in my expences. I think in order to live here like I lived in New Jersey while I was working there, I need the same money - $2,500-$3,000
Well www.rentacoder.com is wicked cheap. I've paid between $10-$120 tops for exceptional quality and custom programming. You pay per project, not per hour.
WickedFire.com - Stay here. We don't need more of you. Not unless you have money, then, fine...
wages are extremely low. Even $100/month is not that easy for an average worker. My partner was in Unkraine some months ago and he saw young people of 18-25y.old with university degrees and some of them with working experience working at hotel management for example and making $90-120/month.
Moscow is another chapter. Cost of living is high, but this doesn't reflect the average wage of the ones living there.
