Do you ever feel depressed and like it's hopeless?

I was wondering, how many people on this board suffer from depression? Feelings of hopelessness, lonleness, a sense of loss without haveing a loss, - moods like that.

no I'm not talking about once in a while - EVERYONE feels down once in a while, I'm talking about most of the time.

Does anyone here feel like that on a regular basis?

Only when I wake up in the morning, check my stats, and see that I've made less than $1000+ while I was sleeping

Prozac works well, try it. Doctors hand it out like candy and it's not addictive

This reminds me of Monthy Python's LIFE OF BRIAN. The closing scene when they were whistling.

              Everyone has ups and downs.

If it becomes all down, maybe it's time for some life changes, or talking to a therapist.

Even Tony Soprano has a therapist.

the mind is a powerful thing thats for sure

when i was feeling down i consuled with a shrink very helpful indeed they can teach you things to handle this without the need for medication cognitive therapy if i recall correctly

everyone stereotype about head doctors but i think why go through shit when they can help you out?

to be honest I don't really feel depressed all that often.

                  I LOVE my life.

I have a great house, tons of cool toys, should have enough money in the bank to retire in a couple of years the way things are going, no debt, beautiful wife, great dog, I don't have to wake up till noon, 10 conventions a year with incredible people, and I get to fuck with people all day long on GFY.

                    Generally only during waking hours.

Truth is always stranger than fiction - I do not have a chemical imbalance, I'm just wired a LOT differently to most others.

if it's real depression that doesn't have shit to do with it. It has to do with chemicals in the brain and prozac just replaces whats missing.

Depression comes and goes with me. Usually during Winters Holidays. Holidays in my family are times of war and infighting.

As a "artist" I expect bouts of depression and know when I am having them. After a while ya just get used to it once you realise what it is.

Iwould like to say that depression is good for a man. To cover it up with drug's even prescription is not a solution but a cop out.

That's clinical depression. You can suffer from depression due to your circumstances, without a chemical imbalance. It's just different.

Severely depressed people don't get out of bed or eat or over-eat... they also shoot their entire office eventually.

There's so many levels of depression and anxiety in this day in age, it's hard to classify it anymore. The whole world is depressed in one way or another. Those that dwell on it, hold themselves back. I believe people can be mentally healthy without the prozac and other mind altering drugs.

I also think that if people are completely content with their lives, they could be contributing more to society. I'll never retire... no matter how much money I have. I'll always find new and better things to stimulate my mind and give back to others as much as I can. When you're green your growing, when you're ripe, you rot.

I've been pretty depressed since my accident. Not being able to walk and do the things that I love doing for the past 4 months has really sucked.

And me having to depend on others to help me, sucks even worse. I've had a few reality checks where I told my wife to back off, I can get of the wheelchair by myself, or other things... only to realize that no, I couldnt do it without assistance.

Everyday I'm a little stronger and can do a little more for myself, but even being on crutches is a major handicap. The only time I leave the house is for physical therapy appointments. Its not fun going anywhere on crutches, and forget going shopping... you have no way to carry anything or push a shopping cart. Want to get up in the middle of the night and grab a coke? Forget it, unless you want to stand in front of the fridge and drink it... cant carry shit with your hands while on crutches.

What sucks the most is I cant play with my 4 year old kid. Not that he really minds, but everyday he asks when are we going fishing or riding 4 wheelers again. I hate having to tell him not for a few more months.

Theres alot more that sucks but you just couldnt relate to it without being there yourself.

I just try to keep my mind occupied and keep telling myself that it could have been much worse... and keep looking forward to the next Dr appointment and hope everything continues to heal well so I can maybe walk again in 2 or 3 months.

Ive battled with depression pretty much my whole life and it hasnt got any better, only gets worse. Ive been to numerous shrinks over the years, took meds and none of that shit helps. Ive had a very FUCKED up life and had lots of crazy shit happen over the years that i just cant erase out of my mind. Some days ill feel great and feel like doing stuff and others I will feel down and out and like not doing anything at all, (obvious signs of being bipolar). I feel like the only cure to it is alcohol and mind altering pills like xanax, riddilin and energy pills. As for the alcohol im not very heavy on it anymore. I just dont think there is a cure for my fucked up head.

As in anything, there are good days and there are bad days. Just have to wait on the good times when all you have are blues.

And enjoy the good when they come around again while you have them. Nothing lasts forever.

That really sucks. I hope you are fully fit again real soon.

Since then I have been suffering from panic attacks. I guessits because I read to much. After they told me about the cancer I started reading all kinds of shit about it and it really freaked me out. In order to make me relax a bit, the doctor put me on Xanax and Lexapro. I took it for about 2 weeks but I noticed that it made me like a zombie. All idid was sleep or sit still. I had no emotions. I didnt feel happy or sad. I was completely numb.

Now I very rarely take it. I only take it when I feel anxiety coming on. I dont want to spend my life in a shell, hiding behind medicine. I've realized that YES, life does suck, but you have to adapt to it and get used to it.

Get a bathrobe with pockets. When you get up in the middle of the night to grab a Coke, toss the robe on. You can slip the coke into a pocket and carry it with you.
Fashioning a little pocket to hang off of the handle on your crutch is useful, too. Like a fannypack or even a small bookbag. Think of it as a saddlebag ;)

To play with your son... just switch gears! Board games for kids, build 'em yourself RC cars (these are great, I used to be heavy into these with my Dad - and you can sit in one spot while "playing" with them), bring the normal toys like Legos and Lincoln Logs up onto the table so you don't have to get down on the floor. There's always console games (Xbox, PS2, etc). You can still go out and play catch... at 4, he's short, he doesn't need you to be standing to throw a ball to him.

Take a morning and call around to the stores you usually shop at. Find out which ones have electric chairs with a basket on them, or wheelchairs with baskets. Many of them do, especially the Wal Mart supercenters (plus the supercenters have everything all in one place so you don't have to tire yourself out going to 10 different stores). Malls usually have them, too.
Then show your thanks by shopping at the stores that provide these modified carts. (Vote with your wallet.)

It's going to be a long few months, but you don't have to let it stop you from enjoying what you normally do. Just shift your perspective and work *with* it, rather than frustrating yourself trying to work against it.

I started taking medication that really helped a lot. Everyone gets depressed or upset sometimes. I used to be bipolar and such.

I've changed a lot in the last 5-6 years. It feels good to feel ALIVE every day... to be able to appreciate things. If you feel like you can not deal with things or are constantly depressed - go see a doctor.
