In the United States, statutory rape is not a crime that requires that the defendant know the girl is underage. Basically the law says that at a certain age and below, the girl is unable to consent due to immaturity. In the facts described above, if the age of consent is 16+, your friend may have a serious problem.

Good advice that your friend can rely on will depend alot on the jurisdiction you live in. The age of consent for the USA varies from 14 to 18 depending on state. Canada is 14 I believe.

I would never advise anyone to purposely move to avoid prosecution, but if there is no active prosecution or investigation yet, it may be in his best interest to make himself scarce.
