    that spending actually helped create the bull market after he was out of office. what reagan did helped, as well as the deregulations he brought in while in office.

    thats about the only good things he did, most of it was bad as you pointed out.

    his brand of economics doesn't usually work, but in the environment in which he took office it was the exact medicine needed.

    put it this way, he spent more to increase GDP in the future. without that spending, growth wouldnt have picked up like it did. its like borrowing money to fund expansions. worked then, it would be a disaster today which bush is finding out.

            Learn some foreign policy before you post. Communism was on its way out, for sure, but it may have hung around for DECADES if Reagan didn't push it over the cliff. By doing so, he may have tripled the debt due to military spending, but he saved trillions of dollars in the long run.
            That is such fucking bullshit. Communism would have fell at the time it did in the Soviet Union with or without Reagan. The Soviet Union was already experiencing financial failure and social upheaval.

            Going into the 80's the Soviet people were experiencing an impoverished standard of living and it was getting worse. This caused strikes and public outcry against the administration. The people were angry at the fact that the Communist Party had not lived up to what it had promised which was in return for their obedience they would receive employment, free health care, and a level of comfort. When Gorbachev
            was placed as the General Secretary he began a policy called Glasnost which emphasized openness with regard to discussion of social problems and shortcomings. It was Gorbs foresight and social pressure that killed communism. This was coming on long before Reagan. Reagan was doing nothing more than trying to push us into WWWIII, thank God for Gorb or it very well could have happened.

Why do you think glasnost came about? It was to try and appease America as the SU was spending way too much % of its GDP on its military just to try and keep up with the US. All it took was someone of foresight who wanted to outright win the Cold War, and up the ante, to cripple them and bring them down. That man was Reagan.

I can't list them all here because this will take many pages (no one will read this). Just make yourself a favour: read some good historical and political analyses. I mean the books man, not just those illustrated comics you usually read. Also, some kind of high education would be good for you as well (I already have one so please don't suggest it to me)

                                                                        ok, there were internal forces at play which meant the soviet union was vulnerable. the screws holding it together were loose and all it needed was someone to come along with a bat and knock it apart for good. reagan was holding that bat.

                                                                        just because they were vulnerable doesn't mean they couldn't have gotten their act together if they didn't have to worry about other things brought on by americans.

                                                                        without the internal forces like you mentioned, reagan wouldn't have had the chance to claim breaking up the soviet union because it wouldn't have happened.

My personal thoughts are the Reagan admin knew the Soviet Union was about to collapse but used them as an excuse to throw billions into defense contracts. Something conservatives love to do.
