I have also seen the other side of the coin where the doc told my other niece her daughter would have trisomony 18 and die at birth even the amnio showed that and guess what my niece choose not to abort and the baby turned out perfectly healthy nothing wrong with her

I totally agree. I am pro-choice myself, but I must say that partial birth abortion makes me fucking sick! There should be an addendum to Bush's new law to allow "something" in case the mother's LIFE (not health) is in danger. Then if it is found out that a PBA was done without the mother's LIFE in danger then the doctor and mother should face murder charges. This would make sure a lot of doctor's did not perform PBA unnecessarily

      .

Wow, amazing how some people can compare killing a serial killer to killing a baby!!

And don't start your "A fetus is not a baby" bullshit with me, because in this particular thread we are talking about late term abortion, when babies are perfectly capable of surviving on their own!

I personally would never abort based on those types of genetic "flaws". I've known many downs children, and children with other problems. It's a crap shoot.. What I'm referring too in general is problems with the mother.

people are funny. it must suck to feel so powerless and helpless all the time.

hate, anger, fear and agression... all expressed with the purpose of pointing out that someone else is causing it.

funny. sounds like the mind of a serial killer.

If you have ever had a genetically defective child you will believe in the quality of life, not the quantity.

I have seen many lives ruined because a child was born who never would have survived if nature had it's way. Instead doctors saved the child only to emotionally and financially destroy the parents.

If you god fearing christians really believe in your god then doctors should make no effort to save a defective child because god meant it to die.

Again, why paint all people who think different on this issue with a religous brush?

You think "nature's" way of handling this is to have some fucking doctor stab it with a pair of scissors?

natures "way" would be that the baby would not survive. stabbing with scissors is just for entertainment value.

True and it goes both way

Pro Livers want to save the baby with no regard to the mother unless of course its their own daughter who is faced with that decision.

I am only saying - I am an Adult, I am old enough to make a decision which will either haunt me for the rest of my life or not. It/s my choice.

Freedom of speech, Freedom to choose..

Yes there are people who misuse this freedom in anything, from abortion to porn peddlers to religious fantatics.

None of them are perfect, but all have one thing in common

Freedom to make a choice, a choice which will affect their way their live.

I know of many who choose to keep the child even if the child is not perfect, it is their choice!!!

                                I choose to make pornography
I choose not to believe in a Christian God
I choose to run around naked in my home
I choose to raise my daughter the way I feel right and telling her about sex

Lots of choices we are making on a daily basis.

I choose the life of my sister-wife-girlfriend over the life of an unborn child -

                                I choose -

How many choices will be taking from us in the coming years? They will choose how you raise your child
They will choose what you can and cannot read
They will choose what you can view

The first step is taking, its hiding behind the Moral Clause. Wait until Porn is no longer a choice but it is a felony like Late Abortion. hiding behind the Moral Clause.

Oh well, another step back for women. Another step backwards for Freedom of Choice.

If Bush and his crones had their way, every household would be a christian household believing in the same religion, and one nation under THEIR god. That's not freedom.

                                              The land of the Free!

Guess the freedom to chose is no longer included.

I guess you can allow 'embryo cell research' by big corporations but value the same cells in a woman over that womans life.

I wonder how much farther a religios minority can go before the people start burning down churches.

Here is what was signed I looked myself and the bill that was signed was on PARCIAL BIRTH ABORTION here is what it said I don't see anything that states what was stated in the begining thread

On Wednesday President George W Bush is expected to sign the bill, passed by Congress in October, which would outlaw a procedure known as partial-birth abortion used in the later stages of pregnancy.

The groups filed suits in New York, San Francisco and the Mid-West state of Nebraska, saying they were determined to intervene to halt what they called a dangerous law.

We have to take every step we can to intervene before this dangerous bill becomes a law

                                                Gloria Feldt
                                                Planned Parenthood Federation of America
Partial-birth abortion, which is already outlawed in a number of US states, involves the foetus being partially delivered before it is killed by piercing its skull and removing the brain.

But pro-abortionists say the bill is so open-ended it could affect more than one type of abortion, and is unconstitutional because it lacks an exception for cases where the woman's health is at risk.

""We have to take every step we can to intervene before this dangerous bill becomes a law," Gloria Feldt, president of a family planning group which filed the San Francisco case, told the New York Times newspaper.

"We may have only hours to spare when [the president] actually signs it, and we just can't take the risk that our doctors and patients can be uncovered."

Supporters of the bill say that partial-birth abortion procedure is never necessary to protect the health of the mother.

BY SIGNING legislation to ban "partial birth" abortion, and accentuating his action with inflammatory language, President Bush has assured that abortion rights -- as well as the direction of the federal judiciary --

will become central issues in the 2004 presidential campaign.

Americans have been put on notice: The right to choose cannot be taken for granted.

Bush signed the measure to ban the procedure known as "intact dilation and extraction" before an appreciative audience that included pillars of the religious right: Jerry Falwell, the televangelist; Lou Sheldon, chairman of the Traditional Values Coalition, and John Ashhahahahaha, attorney general of the United States.

Bush attempted to exploit the emotional power of the issue. Abortion opponents have skillfully and repeatedly invoked graphic descriptions of the late-term procedure to stir public revulsion.

"For years, a terrible form of violence has been directed against children who are inches from birth, while the law looked the other way," Bush said at the signing ceremony.

It is, without question, a gruesome procedure. It is also extremely rare -- almost always involving a wrenching decision on how best to alleviate a serious health risk to a pregnant woman. It is a case-by-case judgment that should be made by a physician, in consultation with a patient, after evaluating all medical and ethical issues.

The constitutionally dubious aspects of this particular restriction -- the first ban on an abortion procedure since the landmark Roe vs. Wade ruling of 1973 -- show the danger of mixing politics and medicine. Pro-choice groups argue that the legislation was worded so loosely that it could apply to many pre-viability abortions in the second trimester.

Significantly, the newly signed bill does not allow for an exception for the health of the pregnant woman. That omission may prove to be a fatal flaw from a constitutional perspective. The U.S. Supreme Court recently struck down a similar "partial birth" ban in Nebraska because of its failure to protect women's health.

The new law's implementation was halted by quick federal-court rulings in Nebraska, New York and San Francisco. Its constitutionality may ultimately be settled by the U.S. Supreme Court. This president's bold attempt to curtail abortion rights should remind voters that the winner of the 2004 election could make several appointments to the high court, and control the course of the judiciary for a generation or more.

In an ideal world, the "intact dilation and extraction'' procedure would never have to be considered. But in the real world, the precariousness and unpredictability of human health sometimes presents doctors and patients with excruciating choices. Government should stay out of the way of these private deliberations on whether and how to end a troubled pregnancy.

Just because there is a problem with the mother doesnt mean kill the baby deliver the baby and pray to god that the baby survives. I almost died with the twins last year my liver was shutting down did they perform a PBA at 34 weeks? no they performed a c-section delivered the babies and they lived with no complications. I have known babies born at 24 weeks being born and survived so why kill the child because the mother is at risk when you can deliver the baby and still prevent the mother from dieing as what happened to me in my situation i could have died if i didnt deliver they delivered the children 6 weeks early and i got better and the children survived. I don't want to hear that insurance doesn't pay for c-sections becasue they do and so what if they don't would you rather have to pay a hospital bill and have a baby or not pay a bill and kill your child you choose but i would choose paying the bill

Who the fuck are you calling Bush Zombies???!

Don't forget, the Amercian people didn't vote Bush into office.. but for some reason.. we are to weak to fight to take him out of office. Unfortunately, by the looks of it, he will stay in office another 4 years unless a good Democratic candidate steps up to the plate and kicks some ass.

"Come to Canada.."? WTF! I don't know much about Canada. Can you enlighten me about what makes Canada so great? What has your country done to make the world a better place? Sure Canada grows all of the good weed we smoke in the U.S. but give me more.. pump up Canada and sell me on this "Canada is better than the U.S." viewpoint you seem to have.

If you plan on having a baby in the future you better hope its healthy, you better pray that your wife is not at risk giving birth, because you will have NO choice, your wife will have to die in order to give birth. We just stepped back 200 years

I am so sick of that guy

                                                              .....
I agree... God help us all against Bush. I fear for my country with him in office. Living overseas I view first hand how the outside world views us with Bush in office. Many people are thinking of us as a tyrant nation. Power hungry Bush is not happy controlling the world.. he now feels he has to control the womens bodies of our nation.

Evolution of mankind has given women the right to decide the health of the children they carry and whether the child will be born or die in the whomb. The outside world has no right to control what happens inside a womans body, inside anyones body.

If we chose to do drugs and die.. it's our right. If we chose to drink.. it's our right. If a woman choses to end the life inside her body .. it's her right. Consequences for the choices we make regarding our bodies are real. If we do drugs and cause harm to others.. there are consequences. If you drink and drive and kill someone.. there are consequences. If you abort your child there are consequences. ( i.e. relationships suffer. Your body suffers. You emotionally suffer. etc. )

Make no mistake that women will retain control of their bodies whether the president tries to take control or not. They always have had control of their bodies.. and always will, one way or another.
