Indeed... IE (like most M$ products) really is full-of-holes garbage. I use Firebird and Mozilla standard for testing pages, but for every day browsing I use Opera 7.21, which is really good and has a nice interface.
i've been using netscape for awhile now. so much better than IE its crazy. the "open new tab" feature is lovely and saves on system resources. i'm going to give mozilla though

cool browser too, i have NS7.1
just in case IE breaks down for me.
Regardless of which browser is "best", the majority of surfers still use IE. If you're a webmaster who doesn't use IE, you run an increased risk of not noticing problems with your sites that might affect your surfers.

Netscape disables popups, can store passwords and isn't open to as many exploits as IE is.
I like the NS mail program better then outlook express as well.

It's smart to build to your sites for IE, but for surfing the net netscape is more enjoyable IMO

That's because Netscape is just Mozilla with a facelift.
Netscape 7.1 = Mozilla 1.4
Except Netscape has TONS of AOL spam and crap built in.
opera7 is the fastest browser on earth

if you still using ie
you are an idiot
im using opera since when.... 3-4 years
opera rocks !

who the fuck is going to bother to exploit a browser used by 3 geeks and a handfull of porn webmasters?
ummm, if you'd pull your head out of your ass you'd see that's the point of this thread.

Try opening ARS's stats up in Firebird it doesn't work so well.
Try logging into your stats on a few of the tgp trades scripts, oh it doesn't work there either.
Try checking other sponsors and notice that Opera or firebird forgets the damn user/password for them so you have to type the shit in.
Both are good if you just surf normal stuff but doing work I dont have time to figure out why they don't work right.
That's prob. not opera of firebird problems .. more likely didn't the webmasters coding thoose statspages bother with actually coding correct HTML. Ppl usually are very sloppy with their HTML =).. the general rule seems to be if it works in IE its correct HTML. Mail the webmasters and ask them to fix their HTML.
Moz password / form filler works perfectly fine here, dunno what's the beef with yours.

Same core, just different "shells". Firebird has a bigger rendering window for example (due to very small buttons etc). Mozilla options give more detailed controll over various stuff though.

if mozilla, netscape, opera, or anyone else was in the position IE is, they'd be the target instead of IE.
That's prob. partly true. Buts its not only that. Microsoft is always aiming for maximum functionallity and easy of use. Security always seem to come last. Sure, while its nice that everything just works even when HTML code is buggy etc.. the backside of it sucks, messy code that seems very hard to keep secure. All the active scripting, ActiveX stuff etc... it seems to be a security mess as well. Same mentality, functionallity over security. And of course its all on by default.. microsoft wouldn't want to bother the user to turn stuff on/off ..

heh, there are vulns for mozilla as well, they usually get patched pretty quick though. I do believe the mozilla code is alot cleaner and easier to keep secure then the IE code. Things pointing in that direction is the time it takes for microsoft to patch new IE bugs..
and.. if your IE gets jacked.. it's usually your own laziness and/or ignorance at fault.
Fact is that IE contains alot of well known unpatched bugs that microsoft just seems to ignore. The most recent example, today on bugtraq a vuln was presented that uses a 2 year old bug never patched my microsoft. There's even pages for "the latest unpatched IE bugs".. I think one page counted to over 30 at some time (some smaller, some bigger). Its sick =).
Firebird's just completely free and has a wonderful, dedicated team that updates and updates new features every single day... and I love the anti popup blocker, GOOD STUFF~!

Firebird shows some promise... but seems buggy... slow and clunky... perhaps when they have a release candidate it will be worth something to blow smoke about.
