Why can't south american countries get their shit together?

Why is it that countries like Argentina, Brazil, and Chile don't have the standard of living of countries like US, Canada, Europe, Australia, etc...?

They're not exactly 3rd world countries, there are plenty of rich people and nice neighborhoods, big business, natural resources, etc..., but what has kept them from being on the same level as the rest of the civilized world?

I've never studied much about south american countries, but I suspect their biggest problem is corruption. Anybody with any knowledge care to share your thoughts/opinions?

I post on GFY so that when people ask me what I do,
I can tell them that I work with the mentally retarded.

Actually, this is a very stupid way of thinking. And I´m not even talking about your wrong racist point of view, I´ll even try to develop my answer under it.

There is NO major genes difference! We are majoritary europeans in heritage! The europeans made our colonization, killed most of our indians and the black fellows (well, there aren´t many in Argentina) here in Brazil untill today aren´t in position of doing much to be guilty (like in US).

And even our indians - I don´t know if you are aware of this, but they have come from ASIA...

So don´t come with this genes crap, because you know shit about what you are talking about!

Well, we have a BIG problem with corruption, but that´s not the main reason we are left behind. The history of our colonization may give us a hint. There is a basic difference between our colonization model and the North American one. When europeans gone to America, they have gone there to build a home. When they came to South America, or Mexico, they came to take as much wealth they could and them go back to Europe.
So while the americans were building up a country through the centuries, we were basicly just feeding europeans.
So the main reason for us being fucked up is that we have had less than 200 hundred years to build a nation. We are actually better than we should be.

East Asians = descendents from ancient Northern Chinese tribes, from which the Japanese and Koreans also originate. Native Indians are not related to what we define as "East Asians" when it comes to racial classification.

Ok, my Nazi friend. First of all our indians did cross the Bering from Asia to get in here. That is proved and I doubt you have some SOLID fonts that will say the opposite.

And even that they didn´t, there are few of them left, so you can´t blame them for our situation.

And you forgot the main point of my argument - Our heritage is european. My father is portuguese, my mother´s family is german and italian. We are all a mix of European races, with a bit of indian and black. Just like the US. And since they are the world leaders and we are shit, I don´t think that our heritage is the reason of our situation.

I don´t know what I did started this conversation with you. You know nothing about our history, that´s why you simplify everything with your racist beliefs.

Australia was built as a comunity. The scum that was sent there, had no option but unite and turn that land into a home. They all started equal , just like the pioneers of the Mayflower. It´s very different then starting a country with a parasite elite and already owing money to Europe.

Btw, I do belive in cultural evolutionism. But not based in genetic diferences. I recommend you reading "Non-zero", by Robert Wright. Nice book.

The people with the $$$ and knowledge do not share it with others. 10% of the population has 90% of the $$$ in brazil. The way of life is very traditional. Change is frowned upon. The concept of "Leave the blind ---blind is still in effect.

The fault lies with both the government and the people.
1. The government is so corrupt on all levels local,state, and federal. The politicians that are in a position to make changes are only concerned with lining their pockets so they can have the wife, the mistress, the beach house, the apartment in the city, and the house in the country. This is just the way things are and I do not see it changing anytime soon.

2.The working people lack the knowledge/education to make change. Everybody there is scared of everything. I have never seen so many people scared of the most benign things. All they want is their rice and beans for lunch--watch the soaps at nite and they are happy. Everybody is so fucking selfish and small minded.

I believe this set of rules apply to all 3rd world nations.

I understand the posts made by South Americans but....for how long are you gonna blame it on the Europeans? The Spanish conquistadors took your gold in the 16.th and 17.th century BUT they also gave you the Spanish (or in Brazil: Portuguese) language and culture - just like India got a chunk of British culture and a unifying language for a country otherwise divided in dozens of different tribes and languages.

You guys can't forever blame it on history....

You forgot that when Portugal accepted Brazil's independency, they only did it because they were payed a large amount of money, which England lended to us. So, since our independency we already have debt to other countries. Our debt just kept increasing from that date till now, and our goverments just can't invest the kind of money that needed to be invested on any social area because of our debt....

You should read some Saskia Sassen texts, she's an american professor of sociology, at the University of Chicago before coming here to talk shit....
