Osaka man flings lit cigarette into baby stroller
OSAKA -- An unemployed man who burned a baby when he intentionally threw a lit cigarette into a stroller has been arrested, police said.
Yukio Hatabu, of no fixed address, has been accused of inflicting injuries.Hatabu, who has admitted to the allegations, told officers, "I did it because I was frustrated with the hot weather. I didn't think it would cause much trouble."
Hatabu, 40, threw a burning cigarette into a baby car pulled by the baby's grandmother when he passed it at about 4 p.m. on Monday. The four-month-old baby suffered slight burns to the face and shoulder.
The incident occurred at a pedestrian crossing near the Osaka Central Post Office in the city's Kita-ku. (Mainichi Shimbun, Japan, June 8, 2004)
