Ok, I just got through dealing with a similar situation. Owed the IRS some back taxes. They offered a payment plan. I called them up. They said "Mr. Hogrefe how much can you afford to pay". I told them 25.00 a month. They said ok, that sounds fine. We will send you a monthly bill for 25.00 until the debt is payed off. I said thanks. End of Story. I'm not Bullshitting. I paid more than 25.00 a month and sometimes only 25.00. They took all of my tax returns for the last 7 years including that 300.00 tax break we got a few years ago, Federal and State. This past November I made my final payment on the debt which was from 1995. They never threatened me. I was at first scared as shit when I got the letter. The debt was almost 6 grand and I thought all of the same shit you are. This year I got my first Tax return since 1994.

Just call the number on the letter. It won't be so bad. You will be talking to some $8.00 an hour customer service rep that does this all day long.
thanks a bunch!

i just got off the phone with them and they said once i've filed current then i can call them back and work out what i owe.
