Fox cancels Bruckheimer's 'Skin'

Citing poor ratings, Fox pulled the plug on the Monday night drama. Despite a massive marketing campaign, audiences never sparked to the show. Some executives believe that this was because of the "racy" subject matter.

Eight episodes were shot, but as of now, there is no word as to whether the remaining 5 will air.

I watched the premiere, and it didn't grab me. Just didn't think it was solid television.

SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.

Hmm, I just watched the third episode tonight and was thinking about where they would be going with the show. I guess maybe no where. I thought a lot of the characterizations were interesting, but they had not totally developed where they were going with it yet. Most people I know in real life have watched it, so I'm not sure about the rating thing.

Maybe people are too cynical about love today to buy into the whole Romeo and Juliet plot.

There's only so far you can take that type of a storyline as well. It needs to be more involved but the concept was good.

Yeah, but Nip/Tuck has a dark and humorous edge to it that SKIN was lacking...

I remember watching the first episode and thinking that the relationship with the son and daughter was forced and not-believeable. After that, I tuned out...wasn't hooked.

The whole relationship thing was exactly why I didn't watch it to begin with....just too stupid for even A Very Special Blossom episode.

Man, I was afraid of the possibilities when a network as conservative as Fox decided to "experiment" with an adult-themed show. Now they're gonna hack it and claim that the general public "doesn't want" such programming.

What a crock of shit. Give us characters who don't put us to sleep and storylines that haven't been done thousands of times before. Give us a real look at what Porn Valley is really like - there's plenty of new drama to be conveyed, dammit!

But Fox got lazy. Tried to make Romeo And Juliet work yet one more time, and the peed on their shoes trying it. If they try to blame it on the subject matter, it's nothing more than a veiled effort by a conservative network to stem the growing mass acceptance of the adult entertainment industry as a whole.

The only part I watched was a scene with the porn mogul (aka the poor man's al pacino) turning down a 19 year old piece of ass who wanted to get into the business and paying for her plane ticket back to her midwestern home town. I know Bruckheimer flicks feature some of the most unbelievable and contrived plots ever put on film, but that just took the cake. She was BEGGING to get a role, and said she would "do anything" to make it happen, and hes ordering her out of his office. Funny shit.

That said, The O.C. is a remarkable show of astounding depth in both plot and character development, and will have a place in the annals of television fame for many a decade to come.

I watched about 5 minutes of one show then changed the channel. I hate these shows that have people in their early 30's playing the roles of teens. It's stupid.

I liked the show but couldn't stand the relationship between the teens and their horrible acting. The other story plots were very good and an excellent reflection on the porn biz (for instance, the doctor who wanted to turn down $80mil they wanted to donate to a cancel hospital because it was tainted money), IMHO.

I wish they'd get rid of the kids (send them to boarding school) and get back to the meaty characters and keep it on. Everyone I've spoken to who has watched it was turned off by those annoying kids.

Don't look for any conspiracies here folks.....TV is ALL about making money, and if the show had the ratings, they would leave it on.

From what I heard from friends in the biz, the network sold the advertising time at too high of a rate.....they badly overestimated the projected ratings....sponsors got pissed when they saw the real numbers....and that was that.

I only saw the first episode, but really got the impression they were portraying the pornographer as being too respectable. Where as the DA was crossing the line to go after a legal business. You can not have such politacally incorrect portrayals in times like these.

please.. you think that all show are equal? That all show get the same amount of angry viewers? What if this show got more than the rest? Look what happen with the Reagan Series... Fox and other network can handle a certain amount of critisism... but i guess that with that show "skin" ... the critics were too much for them to handle.. They might even had alot of moderate liberals as critics to tell you the truth..

According to the reports I have read about the Reagan show even the network chiefs after considerable editing thought the show was just filled with too many inaccuracies.

T.V. Networks are all about controversy...sex sells...violence sells...controversy sells...don't believe me turn on the local news ;)

This show sucked ass pure and plain. The plot was contrived...come on the porno guy's kid and the D.A.'s kid hook up? Shit give us something better than that to work with.

I watched part of it...and other than hot chicks, there wasn't much to it. And a bulk of the show seemed to be based on stupid high school relationship drama.

I thought the pacing of the show was way off. I watched 3 episodes but got bored about halfway through. Didn't watch more than 45 minutes tops of any episode.

As for TV liking controversy ? Again please! There's a limit to the controversy they can create... BIg network like NBC, FOX are making sexy shows... but they know that they have a limit... and im not even talking about nudity... They also cannot have primetime shows like "the snoop dog" show were the use of pot is promoted... etc...

Well the first mistake FOX made was airing Skin at the same time as NBC's Las Vegas. Las Vegas rocks... I never even bothered to check out Skin, if it was on at a different time or day, I might have.

I liked the premiere, but was just too busy to catch the 2nd and 3rd shows.

The real problem wasn't the plot/characters IMO, I just didn't see what more they could add to the story. The story was good, a DA vs a guy in Porn/Strip Clubs. In fact, I liked it a lot since it related to what we all do, heh. But I just don't see what else they could've done with it. After the premiere I got a sense of I knew what was going to go on and such, but throught the other episodes they were probably just going to make it cheesier by heightening the feud. So I was happy with the first episode, couldn't really give a fuck if I missed the 2nd and 3rd, i still feel like I haven't missed anything...

Its one of those shows all you gotta do is watch the first and last episodes, and you really haven't missed anything.

The previews made it look awesome.

i have to say that i think television is getting a bit out of hand, and i can understand why some people might have a problem with it.

at home my television only picks up hockey and football games and the occasional daily show with jon stewart, so i don't really see most shows.

the other night i was over at my parents house and my mom was cooking dinner and had the tv on. it was some sitcom about a family and the episode was all about the teenage boy's dick. my brother left the room about 10 minutes in, and i left shortly afterward.

most normal people feel that's impolite conversation, and certainly not the kind of thing to feature on a prime time family sitcom. why do the networks feel they have to have such stupid tasteless shows?

if i sell porn and i was offended its not hard to imagine there are plenty of people who feel just like i do.

the networks will only alienate viewers and diminish profits by continuing down this path.

We're talking about Ron Silver here... get a grip, he would have come out the bad guy more sooner than later!! He just doesn't MAKE a believable good guy.

It was nice to see Linc back on TV. Hope he picks up another series soon.

I totally agree. I wanted to watch skin but Vegas is a really really hot show so I never attempted to change the channel!

I've trusted my sites to them for over a decade...

I remember seeing the preview for it at the movies. At least here at the AMC at the BLOCK, they show previews for upcoming FOX shows.

I didn't like the trailer and never watched it. I really only want FOX for comedies.
