Lost domain - GoDaddy can lick my duck butter.

A friend of mine doesn't have a CC and needed his domain renewed. So the idea was to transfer his domain over to my account, I would renew the domain, etc. He puts in the ownership transfer at GoDaddy and I receive an email with an ID and password. I click the link from the email, enter the ID and password combination, and receive a resulting "invalid password" page.

Well fuck me. Now nobody has access to this domain and it expires this Friday. I need this domain. Emailed GoDaddy and basically they need the CC number used to register the domain. That CC no longer exists and we have no way of accessing the numbers.

I need some suggestions. How can I secure this domain? I'll shit myself if someone steals it from me.

sad to hear that - how about if you had your friend scan his passport, or any other official document, eventually, he gotta remember with that type of card it was purchased.. basicly, try to collect as much info as possible, and make sure that you got some picture ID to fax them... That have worked everytime I needed anything changed without having access to ex. the email account registered at the whois etc...

Or perhaps they got a lost password script thing if you haven't tried that already...

Another Godaddy fuckup story.Shit I hate these guys with a passion.
A while back they "updated " their database and change my account name. They never told me and it took a week of fucking emails andseveral loooong international phone calls to be able to access my account.
What I had to do was find one of the original emails that confirmed my purchase of the domain an dquote them the invoice number.
So see if you can find the original email from them confirming the order and look for a number on that invoice.
If all fails you will have to get pool.com and namewinner.com on to it when it expires.

Godaddy are really becoming abnoxious all you should need is your password to access the account and use your credit card details to renew.

I would CALL godaddy and speak to a manager of some sorts. They may make you jump through hoops like faxing DL and sign some papers, but I had the same thing with network solutions a few years ago and finally got it straightened out.

I have over 400 domains registered at BulkRegister.com

I pay $9.25 per year. A little more than GoDaddy, but their service and dependability is far superior to most of the cheap registrars. In fact, just the other day they emailed me to make sure all my contact info is accurate and up to date.

That sounds like incredible bullshit, but if that's how they are, do you know the person whose CC was used? I'm wondering if you could access a credit report (Equifax or whosever) to get a list of the CC accounts the person had, then contact those CC companies to try and determine the actual CC number that they had with them. It's a roundabout, time-consuming, and not sure-fire approach, and calling GoDaddy is probably a likelier solution, but if it's a supercritical domain you might want to hedge your bets by trying this too.

That's nuts, I have some accounts still with NSI and I have no clue what their passwords are but I can renew them no problem. They just need domain names, not the account info... It's crazy to hear something like that, they're going to lose a customer because they don't know who's going to pay for it? That's messed up..

I've never had a problem with GoDaddy except a double charge on my AMEX that they fixed immediately.

And everyone who owns a domain at any registrar got that 'accurate contact info' email.

Wait till you get your 400th message making sure all your contact info is accurate and up to date. As someone with a lot more domains registered there, I've grown to dislike them. They're okay for a few hundred domains, but their user interface gets very frustrating with larger volumes. I've transferred most of my names out, and have plans to transfer the rest, but meanwhile, for the past few days, I'm hit by a daily barrage of friendly email reminders about my whois info. It's just one more example of their not thinking about people with lots of domains - some other registrars send one reminder with a list of the domains you have there, which is much friendlier.

By the way, you can talk them down on price...I was getting $8.50 a year. I had more domains there, but I bet you can talk them down anyway...tell them you like their service but are thinking of moving to a competitor who charges $7 a year, and ask what they can do for you.

Yep, in a rare show of common sense, Netsol has the right idea: you can renew a stranger's domain name for them. When Hotmail went down a couple years ago because Microsoft forgot to renew passport.com, some random mac user took pity on MS and shelled out the $35 to reactivate it!

I lost about 5 names a few years ago when my fucking fly by night hosting company closed up shop and skipped town. I fucking tried EVERYTHING to get the pw's but no dice.
I had paid for several years ahead and am now waiting for the cocksuckers to expire so I can renew.
