Ours is a little over a year old, VERY SMART. Learned all sorts of stuff in like less than 5 tries. Of course, we got him when he was a pup, so we got to raise him as we wanted. he knows OUR commands. Sure, the standard Sit, Down, Shake but he also knows "SHUT THE FUCK UP" and he can answer questions when you ask him Knows the difference between "Do you want to go outside?" and "Are you hungry?" and "Are you ready for bed?"

Get a cocker!!!
My mom's cocker spaniel was the meanest bitch on the block. She'd sleep on my bed, then bite me if I moved my foot in my sleep.
