depends, if you're sending the same kind of traffic from the same kind of ad to the same sponsor and your ratio turns from 1:300 to 1:5000 then it's useful as a wake up call.
Then again in general i agree, i prefer to make 10k at 1:1000 than $100 at 1:50
Sleazy is right. Show me the bottom line profit after you take out all your costs. That's the only number that counts. Everything else can be twisted and played with.
Assuming your using the same sponsor, same payout rate, etc... then ratios matter.. if im converting 1:500 with one of there sites, then i will try a different site, and if im converting 1:100.. then im making more money.. ratios are just a reference to go by when working woth your own traffic.. but in the end, yes you are right..
but its soo entertaining to compare ratios from prior weeks...
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.
My best ratios are for sites where the traffic has been filtered down to the smallest niche possible. My biggest $$ are for the mass appeal sites that get the most clicks (and relatively low ratios).
Truth be told, there are very few instances where one can accurately compare ratios in any meaningful manner, other than comparing different reporting periods for the same sponsor.
If you are trying to optimize your traffic for high ratios instead of high dollars, you are hurting yourself.
I wouldn't say ratios are useless. Of course, the bottom line is what matters most, but let's say you're promoting a particular sponsor.
Say you send them 50 thousand uniques, and convert at 1 in 1000 at 30 bucks per. That's $1500. Now.. You figure you might wanna change things up. Improve those ratios and maximise your profit on your traffic. So you change your banner/ad/whatever, and this time around you send 100 thousand uniques. Now you make $2300 bucks. Wow, you've made more money. Good stuff. But by using ratios, you'll see that your previous ad was more effective.
Granted, you could compare 50 thousand to 100 thousand and say that you should have made about twice as much, but that's still using ratios to an extent, even if you're not actually whippin' out the old calculator.
I think Sleazy is right, there are actually only a very very few numbers you really can compare to eachother, and sponsor stats are more or less useless ones. And more important than a 5% better conversion rate is that you'll get your money at the end of the period.
Do you have access to any other type of traffic than tgp traffic?
AVS ?
FREESITES ?
SE ?
PPC ?
I'm not talking about that chinese traffic you buy to keep your sextracker position.
I mean quality traffic where ratios are important?
Sleazy you fucking right , ratios ain't meaning a shit ...cause I'm making my own ratio with credit cards anyday!!!! hahahaha
/me loveess fat sized chequesss
...but still im having memories of high speed, when the cops crash, pushing a cock into my ass, while my tiny pecker blasts.
If you do not track the traffic that you send to sponsors FROM YOUR END then you have no clue what you are making. What one sponsor calls 2000 hits another may call 1500 and another may say 150. You have to be able to track the traffic you send to sponsors. Once you know what you are sending each one and you match that against what you are making off that traffic then you can obtain your per click earned amount. From there there are any number of variables that have to be considered: link/banner locations/wording/presentation, niche type vs. traffic likes, the phase of the moon, etc...
The fact is there is no one magic formula. Picking the right sponsor to send traffic to is as much art as it is science. Find what works for you and exploit it. And when you find something new that works great for you then keep it to yourself as long as possible (unless they have a good referral bonus ).
Just to speak from experience I will say that adjustments in your advertising by analysis makes a huge difference.
I've designed plenty in my time and have been dumbfounded by the results of even simple text adjustments, often enough just swapping out a girl for another.
Sometimes 30% improvement other times 30% depreciation in results.
Use ratio's to not only project but also measure improvement and failure from operation to operation.
Sponsor ratios mean nothing to me...
Size of the check is what matters but its important to know how many outbound hits were sent as well according to your own traffic measures, not the sponsors.
Maximize the amount on check, sponsors can lie right through their teeth to me about 1st page hits, raws, uniques, whatever... it's all about the check at the end of the pay period.
