Okay, the $4k I have paid for dental work for my wife and myself so far this year means I need to get some dental insurance. Any recommendations on a good company from other self-employed webmasters?

United Concordia
It is the company Blue Cross -Blue Shield offers -
They seem to offer only group plans? I'm looking at their different programs and they all seem to have a minimum group of 10 patients. I just need insurance for my wife and myself.Originally posted by howard

Hey Rictor--I would say try to give them a buzz and if they can't insure you I'm sure they can point you to some alternatives...Originally posted by Rictor

True dental insurance rarely exist anymore. You end up having to go to specific dentists who usually cannot get customers any other way, they off you "discounts" off their high cost items and tell you that you need things you really don't
IME, finding a good dentist is the best choice and see if they'll give cash discounts or work out payment plans

Try http://www.30ehealth.com to compare prices, plans and benifits. There is a link for dental benifits on the left side of the page.Comment

Are you a member of *any* organizations, business or otherwise?
Think about things like credit unions, etc. Are you a veteran? Not for the VA - they don't do dental for most people. If you or your wife is, just join a service group like the VFW or American Legion - many insurance companies will give you group rates.
The point is, you may be a member of a "group" that offers group insurance rates and not even know it.
I joined a credit union years ago - haven't used them for literally 10 years, but their motto is "Once a member, always a member", and I get my group rate health insurance through them. I may have $0.34 in accrued interest from the pennies I left there years ago
Good luck - it's a bitch paying individual rates.Comment

I have Blue Cross and everything is still prettty expensive with insurance so I'm not sure what the point is. for a filling it's $75, For a crow $435 and for 4 wisdom teeth removed it's $1,566 (cost more because I have complications/cyst). Going to the dentist sucks. It hurts too
