    Fuckin MLM's

Damn that Excel shit, a friend of mine called me the other night and he's all excited about this new "opportunity" to make a fortune and all that.

Starts explaining that you make money on other salespeople you reffer and whatnot and i'm like "Dude that's a pyramid scheme i've seen that shit before you're NOT gonna make money"

(When i was younger i used to sell vacuum cleaners, grass fertilizers and went to a few meetings of MLM's like Primerica and Herbalife but never joined)

Still he convinces me to go meet the people there the next day (Gotta keep an open mind, have never heard of Excel before) So i go there on St-Catherine's next to futureshop and i meet with the guys. Not too shabby the top guy there brings in $30000 a month, or so he says.

Met with another guy too a complete brain moron who tried every tactic in the book to make me sign, all the really cheezy glamour stuff they show you, you know success stories of the founders and whatnot.

Anyway my friend forked out $500 to get into that thing, i couldn't believe it! And now he got another of my friends to join.

Not only am i gonna have to deal with 2 brainwashed schoolfriends, but i bet we'll be constantly arguing about MLM stuff. Even worse i won't be able to avoid them since they'Re classmates.

What do you think i should do? I did some more reading on MLM's to sharpen my knowledge on them and shut the guys up, in case you want something good try reading this

I used to know a guy that sold Pre-Paid Legal. Fucker made tons of money. He was always trying to get me to do it but I was starting porn right about then and porn is more fun.

There's a difference between selling the actual product and making money with it and just recruiting other people to do the job for him.

Checked a few articles on Excel, some of them are dated but the company is making more money from the recruiting fees than the sale of products.

Also back in 1998 or 1999 there were about 1 million recruiters and 3 million customers, so that's about 3 customers per recruiter.

Also the recruiter was telling me about all the "recurring wonders", hey you know what ? you get between 2 %and 10% per sale and the average customer buys for about $20 a month LOL

I'm surprised you never tried to get them to get into porn. Most people who are into the web-referral based business wouldn't fall for that MLM shit. I thought only over 40 people who aren't computer literate went for that kind of stuff now a days?! :p
I've trusted my sites to them for over a decade...

        Webair, bitches.

Yeah, if they would require you to sell X amount of product before you could recruit someone it would be different but companies like this don't really sell anything except starter kits and training videos and shit like that. I think at Pre-Paid Legal he had to actually sell some memberships before he could recruit anyone, not sure.

You'd be surprised the kind of people i've seen go into that business. Some have failed some have won but not that much. Those 2 guys aren't the brightest bulbs in the christmas tree mind you, but they're not stupid.

Excel requires you to make 2 sales, and same for the people you recruit, but face it, you just swith phone company and you got your 2 sales (long distance + cell)

These guys actually make that money. But the way they do it is kinda shaky.

My father used to sell carpet to a major MLM guy in the D/FW area for some properties he owned.

Anyway, the way this guy makes his money is by buying his way into top levels of every new mlm that comes around.

He gets the hold on the D/FW market ...basically they are sold like franchises.

He promotes it and every person that signs up in that market he gets a piece of. Now does anyone else make any money? Only those above him ;)

chance would be the key word.

These mlm's are all basically based on the same concept...you selling to family and friends and getting them signed up.

How many family members do you have? How many friends?

That pool is very limited. Your next step is trying to organize "parties," in order to get people to show up.

But from what pool do you draw these potential customers from in order to invite them to your party?

The friends and family list is already depleted and after 1 or 2 invites to mlm schemes that list could very well shorten...LOL

I tend to stay away from anything that wants to sell people on selling something rather than a product.

Case in point. I was at a gas station and met this guy who had invented a gearless bicycle. Was about 2 years ago and was an interesting concept...don't recall exactly how it works now but the thing was smooth as silk.

All I wanted to do was to buy a few bikes to try and sell on eBay etc and see if I could pull in some nice extra cash. If they sold well then I would have purchased more and pushed it real hard.

Was he intersted in that? No. All he was interested in was trying to get me to hook up friends that would sell his bikes too...invite them to parties etc.

I could never get a wholesale price out of this guy, only invites to some meeting at a hotel...I eventually gave up.

Ya chances are you're gonna create a shitload of tensions with your family and firneds if they don't want to join, also there are good chances that most of the people you recruit will eventually fail, creating that much more trouble

sigh... i can't believe i'm gonna hear about that shit every day now.

                                  re: the whole tensions issue.

My father lost a good friend of almost 20 years because of Amway...and it had alot to do with the fact that we wouldn't join up with him.

They are speaking again, but it took a life altering experience *heart attack* for him to realize how silly it was for him to hold such a grudge.

Wow yeah my family went through the same kind of troubles, one of my aunt started recruiting everyone for nikken and most of my family don't speak to her anymore.

Yep I tried one of these during college, it was ACN selling long distance, ISP dial-up, etc. I was finally convinced to join when my college buddy drove up in a CLK-430 Benz so I thought I would give it a shot. If I would have recruited my buddy I would have made a shitload (he is a selling machine) but since I was UNDER him I had to do alot of work (group meetings, presentations, door to door to get customers, etc.) All in all, I forked out $499 and probably made about 5X that amount back but it took too many hours and effort to do. Besides that, everybody in my downline (99.9%) have given up or quit so you have to constantly recruit new people beyond your friends and family. I did have about 300 customers but the residual was only about $20 bucks a month so I didn't renew last year...

So now I moved on to a new scheme, Google Ad Words hehehe
