                      Lee tells me it is something to do with a TV show called Cross ROads from the 80's.

                      They had a janitor named benny hill who was a bit slow.

                      Hence the nickname 'Benny' for tards

                                  see, this is when I feel like I somehow woke from a 19 year coma when I moved here. I have never seen an episode of Crossroads (old or new) but yet I know - because I am a pop culture sponge - about Benny.

                                              well, from my experience Americans talk about Benny Hill - who btw played the first BBW fan ever in a movie (that I know of) ..Itallian Job - a good deal more than Brits do.

                                              However, Benny from Crossroads gets refferences all the time, hence I know who he is/was.
