Microsoft wants to buy off Google?

Just heard it on the radio this morning, they said they would like to buy it for 14 billion or become partners with them. Is this a good or bad thing?

Isn't that a strategy of MS? Cann't compete, buy it. They tried to buy AOL before.

Can you blame them? I mean, imagine if someone wanted to get into the porn biz and thy bought ARS and GFY. That would instantly put them where they needed to be. Then they bought Top Bucks and AWI. Then Maxcash and CE. Wouldn't you do it if you could?

If M$ does buy google, I certainly hope they don't screw with it.. I love the fact that google is LIGHT, only 1 graphic and loads in an instant, does exactly what you need it to do and doesn't hit you with popups or other junk.

AOL sucks big time. I wonder what their top notch marketing people are thinking--I got an interview, but never got the job. Their loss.

Stupid me, I bought their stocks at 86, although I hated them.

I would lean towards the bad. Microsoft loves changing things around and that will likely be a bad move. If they buy it and don't touch a thing, then no different. I don't see any good other than syndicating their listings on MSN.

Why would Google sell to Microsoft when their IPO could bring more than 14 Billion?

The Web search darling is considering an IPO offering that could value the company in the range of $15 billion and $25 billion.

The IPO would only make a certain percentage of the company public. I imagine that Page and Brin will keep a significant percentage of the shares to themselves, so MS would have to pay more than $14 billion for a direct buyout unless they just want partial ownership.

It would be very bad if MS purchased Google.

As it stands on MSN.com search right now, for any regular search term you have to wade through a page and a half of paid listings to get to any actual search results.

MS would want to make some money off the largest search engine in the world, so I would expect that they would start throwing out the paid listings into the regular results (not the ad-words on the right or the clearly marked top listings in google).

Before you know it, what used to be a great, no-money-needed search engine has become another bought and paid for commercial tool.

What engine will we turn to then?

If MS buys Google, you will have to login with your MSN Passporte, and MS will stop updating Google after 5 years and start a new site.
