n00b question - Affiliate Signups and SSL

I know that probably all of the affiliate programs advertised and promoted here are legit, but with all of the talk of identity theft, why dont all of them use SSL pages for signups when a SSN is required for a program and payment?

Seriously.. there are a lot easier ways to steal someones info then to try and sniff the info from an unencrypted connection.

Most webservers are pretty easy to hack for instance. Hell you could just make your own fake affiliate program, offer some amazingfpayouts and just harvest those infos! Plus you might get some traffic out of the deal.

I better shutup now before I give people any more ideas.

I never thought about it, but then again I have only signed up to the sponsors that have a long standing reputation.
