that's quite sad, and yes they can be quite dangerous.

i rode a bike in la for 4 years as my only means of getting around (17k miles mostly on the 405 / 10 / 101 ) ... my good wreck was my fault for speeding down the glendale hills, but my gear saved me too much pain. Granted I rode the bike with a who cares if i die mindset ... but respecting your bike is what keeps you alive (at least at a higher clip) .... this dude hit dead center of the front of that truck ... looks like someone fucked up around the turn and didn't stay in their lane.

Let's see... Motorcycle on the wrong side of the road, probably trying to pass someone, probably at good speed (enough to fuck up the bumper on the truck a whole bunch) and enough to rip the tank off the bike and keep it standing up (otherwise the remaining wheel would be on the ground, not standing up). My guess woudl be about 75 MPH...
They didn't die of riding a motorcycle, they died of bad driving.
Same thing, same speed, in a small car would give them about same results.

That has got to be the worst motorcycle accident i have ever seen..holy shit.
I was born and raised on harleys. .. my father custom builds them for a living.
I agree with some of the others.. If you dont pay attention and do stupid stuff like going too fast or drinking.then you are playing with disaster... alot of my near accidents came from others not seeing me and turning in front of me.. if i were not aware of all the assholes in cars..then i too would have been road matter.... always be aware and sober on a bike and dont play games on the road .

Regardless of whats been mentioned, the bottom line is that not all accidents are the bike riders fault, and not all can be avoided. And in the case you are not at fault if you get hit you will always sustain more damage in a bike than in a car. But thats a freak kind of thing thats similar to just getting hit by a stray bullet, so no point of living your life in fear, just drive safe.

one of my friends is seriously into motorcycles. he had two awful freeway accidents, neither of which would have happened in a car. he recently had some psycho push him off the bike with his car, and he's still recovering from broken shoulder, massive bruises and torn knee.
and there have been more minor accidents, believe me. but this one has taken him out of work and off his legs the longest.
and i bet he's riding again as soon as the doctor says "go ahead!"
maybe we should be out buying his next get well card now to keep from having to rush out and buy one for his next accident. i hope he stays alive to receive it :-(Got Gay and For Women Traffic?

motorbikes just aren't as visible on the road, theres no way in hell the vast majority of accidents are solely caused by the riders. You're just waiting to be swatted down on one by a driver that's subconsciously trained to look out for cars. One of my greatest fears is that i'll take out a rider one day, there are so many irresponsible riders on machines that are half as visible. And the way they accelerate through your blind spots sheesh.

I have been riding motorcycles for 20 years now. Its not the bike that makes people idiots...its the lack of respect for the bike. If you take the time to learn how to ride and respect the power you have then its not a problem. Too many people buy a bike for the look or speed and can't control it.
