yep its getting bad. ash and smoke everywhere, the smell of burning shit is thick.
i was driving on the freeway yesterday and caught the best shot of the smoke filling and trailing into the sky. i didnt have my camera but was lucky to be out that way and to see it. but for those closer its very scary.
not much you can do.

worst thing is how hard the santa ana winds are blowing.
i have my patio door cracked a few inches and the wind is still blowing shit off my shelves. (papers and stuff)
that wind must be mindfucking firefighters, and very dangerous for any firefighters battling it.
it must be whirling the flames in all directions pushing it further.

yeah no doubt, when i was a firefighter we never had to worry about forest fires, but fires in skyscrapers were another story.... broken windows and wind at those altitudes wreak havoc! I've got family out in the Inland Empire. Somehow, by the grace of god, their homes are fine--the homes around them, though...gone.
Very scary and very evocative. I was a Frosh in high school out there during the Panarama Fire. Knew lots of people who lost their homes. Remember very well what it was like to wake up at 3 am to fire fighters yelling "GET OUT!". Again, by some miracle, our house, our whole block, actually, made it through with no loss of property.
