    Beetles Cause Widespread California Fires

    this shit is outta control

'A 13,000-acre wildfire in the San Bernardino National Forest jumped down a hillside into an area of $1 million homes Saturday, burning two and forcing hundreds of people to flee, authorities
    said.'

    http://abcnews.go.com/wire/US/ap20031025_904.html

The area has been considered an extreme fire danger because a beetle infestation has killed more than 400,000 acres of trees in the San Bernardino National Forest.

glad i dont live out there.

no i am far enough, but they closed the freeway yesterday right down the street.
it would have to burn a lot of houses to get to me.

its really getting out of hand and nature has taken its worse hit.
damn, CNN reports that officials suspect it was the result of arson. still, i hope this is contained in order not to affect other casualties.

About 1,7000 people had been evacuated, said county sheriff's spokeswoman Sandy Fatland.

We had pine beetle infestation a couple of years ago where I live. They killed the large tall pine trees which now topple over whenever there's a strong wind. We lose power every time the wind gets over 20 mph because of it, and I had $6K+ damage to a car (and a couple of hundred to my roof) when one fell almost 2 years ago. I'm not sure there's even a way to prevent them.

I watched a special a couple of years ago about a guy who had built a home in CA with some sort of flame retardant material. They showed his neighborhood with every home burned to the ground and his looking almost new. I can't remember what it was built out of, the name of the guy or anything, but it was amazing.

                    Fires scare me.
