It's happened to me a couple of times too, once every hundred or so bottles, my *theory* is that with these whiffy bottles there is some bacteria in them from the source (I drink natural spring water) that once opened reacts with the air and turns it ick, so that when your first drink it it's fine but when you go back the chemical reaction makes it stinky - I'm probably wrong but that's what I put it down to.
PS - when this has happened before it always smells/tastes sulphuric - maybe it's the odd bottle getting too much sulphur in a concentrated amount???
PPS - just looked at the bottle sat on my desk beside me and it has a 'typical analysis' of 7 mg/litre of sulphate at source
