Banning may be necessary, but I have an idea.

emotion can play too strong a role in any one person's decision when it comes to a banning.

Lensman, may I make a humble sugestion. Elect a council of 10-20 people that frequent and ENJOY GFY on a regular basis and have them make the decision on who gets banned. Say the council needs 7 out of 10 or 15 out of 20 people on it to support the ban.

th council will vote once a week on a new character - all all that character's fake names as well, and decisions will last for 3 months.

it prevents someone from saying a partticular person has a grudge against them, esp if the council is represented by people from varying aspects ofthe industry.

in reality it will probally bann the same people lens already banns - plus maybe a few more idiots - but it WOULD take a lot of heat off lens.....

There is one problem with having 20 people council... The owner is the owner and he is going to want to shift things in the direction that has made this forum successful from the beginning. Sure he gets help and insites but after all is said and done, he makes the decisions and he gets the resposibility of the outcome. Forums I've admined I delegated resposibility to others who co-admined and I stuck behind everything they have done (in public anyway). But the public needs to know that there is a top dog and that the top dog will bite. And that is why Iran is in its fucked up situation today. Before 200 clerics took it over, it was a nice place to live, so I've heard. Before this place goes democratic, ask yourself if the king has been doing a good job as it is. Over 2,000,000 posts... I'm gonna say, he has been.

That's right the very first mayor of GFY. My platform looks to limit posts to allow equal opportunity and also to assemble a banning enforcement division that will determine if you get banned or not.

You'd be amazed, very few people get banned around here. There are probably only 20 or so that are banned right now, not including duplicate nicks. Virtually all the people who get banned have some sort of notice, unless it's some drive-by idiot or something done in a crash and burn way.
