    What IT Skills Are Hot Right Now??

    I am thinking of going back to school for some IT stuff such as Quark Express and Illustrator.

    Could anyone recommend any other courses I should look into to make me more marketable?

    I have a marketing/advertising background.

              Some GFY person was telling me something about C#... some new Microsoft stuff... sounds at least half interesting to me to look up...

              anyway learn PHP it's kindof like a neato toy that makes a lot of programming tasks really easy...

                  hmmm let's see...

                  you would be wise to get your MCSE/MCSD, if you have not done so already learn VBScript/JavaScript, DHTML/CSS, is always a plus.

                  For the future you may want to pick up PHP/Linux as dual trained programmers are always a good thing...and last but not least go out to microsoft and "PURCHASE" the free .NET disks, there should be four in the group. Start learning C#, should you pick all of this stuff up in a week hehehe your looking a 6 figures...

                      It's best to lie about what you know...

                      Programming languages are all the same anyway... Try memorizing some real crazy recursive algorithms and recite them by heart -- then just blabber about the good 'ol days when you coded your own microbasic for the Altair... Also dress like a slob and don't shave or shower... then tell them you have already had the carpal tunnel operation.

                                  It really depends on where you live. Try going to hotjobs.com, monster.com, and your local newspaper classifieds and looking at the job listings.

                                  In general networking, Oracle, and the Microsoft products are probably your best bets.

                                          Also remember that companies dont know shit usually. I remember back in 97/98 Java was pretty new and i would look in the papers and see job ads requiring 5 years experience in Java. WTF?

                                              LOL gawd TheFly you sound like one of my instructors, he swears just bullshit alot. Actually 2 of them. They say like when you go to a job that has a printer problem and you see it not plugged in, just take your time, an hour or two and act like its a major problem, then plug it in and bullshit a little more about the major problem.

                                                  DataBases, every thing you can learn about them and Statistical Analysis. Helps alot if you know set theory or set math. The big guys
                                                  want this for data mining. There are a couple of very books by guys I believe there names D.F. Codd (relation model
                                                  version 2) and Date can't remember the books this guy wrote.
                                                  Codd's book is some pretty deep reading and you should know math.

                                                      and yes databases are good to know, you may even want to pick up your MCDBA which is always a plus
