    Letter from Iraq

This is straight from a Australian friend of mine who is working in Bagdad for an international security company.
Gives an interesting second view of what is happening over there.

    G'day Bern (and everybody else)

The old iraqi in the palace who blew up the footy said he had never seen a football like it in Iraq before.
I know what you're saying about the reports on the tele but I probably shouldn't complain about the dickheads in the media who don't cover the positive stories as well, like 1200 fully operational schools being handed over to the Iraqis on Tuesday, thanks to them we all received a pay rise before we even got on the plane to come out here and we'll probably be in line for another one shortly.
Saddam and his henchmen spent billions on their palaces, casinos, hotels, and whorehouses and left the rest of the country to literally rust and rot away, even the essentials such as electricity generation (while all the time being able to blame it on the embargos). As for the once daily occurences of kidnap, murder, rape and torture there's no point in even going there. All I can say is that these people (and there are a lot of them) must be judged by the Iraqi people themselves as we in the west are far too soft for the job. 99% of the waste, wreckage and poverty in this country has absolutely nothing to do with the war.
As for the armchair experts who espouse that just Saddam could/should have been taken out they haven't a clue what they're talking about. This entire country needs to be rebuilt from scratch. The buildings, infrastructure, police, army, public service, the whole lot. And none of it can physically or financially happen without the Yanks, whatever people may think of them. All the constant sniping and negativity does absolutely nothing to help the engineers, planners etc, etc who are literally trying to bolt this country back together again. Clowns like Chirac are just playing politics with peoples lives. But then again, the only reason he wants a totally independant Iraq ASAP is so that he can re-establish in some form the oil contracts that he had when he was in bed with Saddam.
Anyway folks, gotta roll. Have to pop over to the palace and 'protect' the pool. It's not all beer and skittles over here you know.
    All the best
    Matt

Funny how it sounds just like Bush....

BTW, ask your friend if he found any WMD ??? You know, those things that Powell said at the UN that he knew where they were... and that needed to be taken care of right now...

If not, tell him to start looking and stop writing.

I know that Asspimple is stoopid ... As he says, it is a FACT !

But I can't figure out how he can breathe or type , at the same time ....

I correspond with friends of mine that are still on active duty and are serving in Iraq as well as a few sons of friends of mine that are also serving. They all say similar things that were stated in the original post on this thread. They tell a much different story than what the media tells...as the media are explotive and sensationalistic in their reporting.

I do not know if you read my last post about "imminent threat" but the links you posted were the media using the term "imminent threat" not the President...in other words their spin on what the President actually said. "Explotive and sensationalistic" and often a half truths.

                Interesting.
That particular letter is directed primarily towards a dislike for the President.

The letters that I receive from my friends speak primarily towards what is taking place in Iraq and the rapport with the Iraqi people. Some have made negative remarks about the President...usually the sons of my friends that are serving...and are on their first enlistment. All of my friends are career soldiers...other than some of their sons...and career soldiers...for the most part...are not into speaking out against their superiors which includes the President.

"Good News" don't matter a shit anymore in Iraq - the base facts are:

                  (a) Iraq was invaded "pre-emptively" by the US and a "coalition of the willing" - ie Blair, not the UK. This is in violation of international treatiies signed by both the US and UK - hence illegal.

                  (b) Iraq was invaded based on an agenda of the US who fed lies and deceit in order to justify this latest adventure. This lying continues almost on a daily basis.

                  (c) The US "war against terrorism" in Iraq killed many thousands of innocent people - there is nothing to say in defence of this.

                  (c) Iraq is a country under US military occupation, - it is not a free country that has been "liberated".

                  (d) With very few exception, this "war of terror" (duh??) in Iraq has zero support from the rest of the world.

Until two days ago the US Admin showed little inclination to get the fuck out of Iraq, but on the other hand, was asking for international support. (Come and pay the price of our fuck up. Why.. but no thanks!) Clearly others are not supporting a rogue regime in the US - they cannot be trusted.

Now, a few days later, yet again, the US and UK want another UNSC resolution with an undertaking which appears to suggest the US will get out by year end - but wait for it - the small print is in progress.

This problem was originally instigated by the US government and, as may be expected from previous adventures, there is now a desire to "opt out" at a time the actual war is slowly gaining momentum and body bags are being used.

There is a theory that goes.. "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction." - For this fraud on a "war against terrorism" the US will pay a very high price in the future, not just from "terrorists" (so labelled), but from many other countries in many different levels. I have zero sympathy since it is the US and UK who inflicted the damage and, rightly, the price will be paid.

PS.. As for "1200 fully operational schools being handed over to the Iraqis on Tuesday" - Where the hell did they come from?? They must be working so hard out there - sorry.. gimme a break! Yet another lie!

Sheesh.. don't ever try to tell anyone that there is ANY "rapport" with the Iraqi people since this has absolutely ZERO foundation.

In fact, you outta know this - the main problem with the US military is that it has NADA capability of having a rapport with a Big Mac.

As Rice said, "Our military are trained to fight and kill and that's what they should be doing". She admitted the weakness of an inability at any peacekeeping or rapport function at the same time saying a lot about the bitch.

There are no forces in the western world who are less able to have a "rapport" than the US military. When did they last do this??? This also extends to the government - who the fuck is out of step in this world? Must be everyone else cos it could not be the US

This is only one of several polls that have been done (I think it is the lastest and the first done by Gallup) and all had similar results.

The sooner the US forks out all the damage money for Iraqi and gets the fuck back to these States the better for all. The soldiers that I am corresponding with tell me that for the most part there is good rapport...between them and the Iraqi's.

                                  An andecdote...

Bruce Willis just recently came back from Iraq and he said that he was all over the country in small towns that are seldom if ever talked about in the media...and he said the rapport between the troops and the Iraqi's is very good and that the troops go out of their way to assist the Iraqi's.

The soldiers that I am corresponding with tell me that for the most part there is good rapport...between them and the Iraqi's.
I'm very please they consider they have a good rapport.

Apart from the actual news articles today of killings of US troops.. how many other attacks were there?? The figure seems to be in the 1500 -1700 a month.. that is, if you can accept the Pentagon's stats. Yea... this rapport is a good thing - tell em to keep it up!

Thank you! It's good to hear that those poor people can finally stop living in fear and start to learn and grow. I know one day soon their children will be able to ride bikes in the streets and play with other children.

The thing you call "foreign policy" ain't. It is a trail of utter disaster from Vietnam to Chile to Israel to Liberia to Afghanistan to Iraq.

It has involved the deposing of democratically elected leaders, the support and involvment in torture and killings of many 1000's and a list that goes on and on.

There are 27 million Iraqi's...and approximately (as poll results show) as many as a third are not happy campers. Nothing new about that. Of the third there have been a few hundred-a few thousand that have been involved in attacking US forces...of that number two hundred plus that have been captured are not Iraqi's...they are foreign fighters...and some have been members of al Qeada.

That was a poll of Baghdad residents and should not be viewed as indicative of the rest of the country. It would be as valid as if I went into Dallas and asked if Bush was doing a good job and then said "see, the United States loves Bush".

                                                        idiots.

I can see it is going to be another long night of swinging the idiot stick.

i'm not positive..but i dont hink the Us has an option to get out of Iraq.when they went in with out support from the UN and decimated the countrys infrastrcuture and government. They assumed a responsibility and they owe the people of Iraq.

That is what will get Bush into hot water very shortly..when all the people who supported him and his oil-military industrial complex realise that they have signed up to shovel over at least 2-3 trillion dollars into iraq. He signed everyone up for more money then was thought..and now they will out him for it.

Hopefully the oil there will compensate for the money spent..but i have to wonder...who gets the money from the oil?..will it be the people who paid for everything as in the taxpayers?...i bet they are two different enities.

I could be wrong but i think if the us simply leaves...it will violate international law.

Ah is that right? I never knew!

And.. the other "forgotten" ones in the last US adventure - give a thought to the .. over 250,000 who suffered and died in the desert by the droves while the US played games in Afghanistan. Don't ever think you have EVER experienced anything like these conditions while you sit on your ass in front of a computer in pampered land and spout the words of the righteous.

Your implication was that it is the actions/foreign policy of the USA that are the cause of the attacks...and of course you understand my reponse perfectly well...unless you are acquiring the "Centurion" syndrome...lack of comprehension.

However, ask this and let it sink in for one moment. Why is the US the subject of attacks???

Is it because the world hates you? Is it because others just collect millions with the sole aim of waking up one day and saying we need someone to attack - hell yea - let's attack the US this week.

You lacking in some logic somewhere??? Or is it just that state of denial??

Yea.. I'm feel pleased ya "liberated" and are taking care of the women and children of Iraq - pity ya had to blow the limbs off many to achieve your ends.

And.. the other "forgotten" ones in the last US adventure - give a thought to the .. over 250,000 who suffered and died in the desert by the droves while the US played games in Afghanistan. Don't ever think you have EVER experienced anything like these conditions while you sit on your ass in front of a computer in pampered land and spout the words of the righteous.
I am not surprised that there may be al Qaeda in Venezula...as it is reported that al Qaeda cells were dispersed to between 70-90 countries. It is reported that maybe as many as 70,000 went through al Qaeda training camps in Afghanistan...though I doubt that there is anywere close to that number in the combined cells around the world.

The Taliban leader in Afganistan was given a choice...surrender Bin Laden or face the consequences...he chose the later...so it was his decision to cause...MORE suffering for "his" people. The same thing applies to Iraq...it was Saddam's decision...to bring MORE suffering to "his" people by not complying with any one of the 17 UN Resolutions...including the last one...1441. In the case of Saddam...he never saw a bad decision that he didn't like.
When you're running down my country hoss...you're walking on the fighting side of me!

Only very few other "backward" countries like Lybia forced their folks to do this.

Did you know you got more chance of being locked up in this land of "freedom" than any place else??

King.. I have been very accomodating about US stuff for a long while now... But it ain't there - something is very noticeably missing.

There is a very BIG difference between US opinion and that of the rest of the world. In fact, almost a total lack of communication or understanding accompanied by a "moral high ground" that is plastered with "patriotism" and bullshit. No other country, with the exception of "extreme" states - yea, the one's the US would "designate" terrorist states - disseminate this bullshit.

Example.. simple one! There is an possible trade agreement, CAFTA, due for signing in Decemeber. Along comes a US total mouth visiting other countries and makes statements like "It's a priviledge to trade with the US" and "we are writing the rules of this agreement" Reaction?? Fuck off back to the US. Why? Because of the arrogance and the previous trade agreements the US has made to the great cost of other nations. He effectively fucked CAFTA by his stupid and ignornant mouth.

Now other countries ain't into giving up cheap goods for the benefit of those in pampered land while their people starve.

You ain't better than anyone on this planet, but think otherwise - The world does not owe you a living - You have nada comprehension of the real world outside Arkansas or wherever and are taught (not that ya can even agree on your own history in schools) that "others" are demons and out to get - totally paranoid!!

I give up... but peace to ya!!

What is a good measure of public sentiment to me? The rise of suicides among active duty, the killing of American soldiers on a nearly daily basis. wait wait, save it, I can hear it already... those are foreign fighters killing our children. I know, the "polls" say Iraqis love us.

Send me to Iraq to conduct a poll, I bet I could find a sample that declared a burning hatred of the United States 98% of the time.

Is it because the world hates you? Is it because others just collect millions with the sole aim of waking up one day and saying we need someone to attack - hell yea - let's attack the US this week.

You lacking in some logic somewhere??? Or is it just that state of denial??

Where did they conduct this "poll"? In the bread line? Was it performed at a Mosque?

Polls. utterly useless. On both sides of the fence. I would trust a poll performed under the watchful eye of the administration as I would a poll done by Al Jazeera.

I have always stated that polls can be...and often are...manipulated...based upon the agenda of the polling org. It is important to know what specific questions were asked. Gallup...I believe...is one of the most reputable polling orgs and post all of the questions asked...the sample taken and the margin of error.
