I think when you start getting either hate or praise mail... then you've reached a point at which you've made a breakthru with your website.

Why? Because people actually think about your site, and they take the time and effort to comment on it. How many TGPs are there that receive fanmail? Not many I bet.

It's all about a webpage's character. If you have character, people will remember you and come back to you.
