I've talked to a few different airlines on/off about this and most agree Tuesdays and Wednesdays are the best days to travel.
This past summer I booked tickets to Seattle from Friday to Friday and than had a change of plans so I rebooked them from Wednesday to Wednesday and saw a change of over $250 lower from the first tickets
But it all depends on where you are, airline and where you are going and when.

Also depends on which airline at which city... usually airlines that have large hubs have cheaper rates if flying in, out or change planes at there hub airport.Comment

Thursday has been the best day to fly. Mostly because its the least busy day of the week for flying, so cheaper flights to get people to fly.
