I've talked to a few different airlines on/off about this and most agree Tuesdays and Wednesdays are the best days to travel.
This past summer I booked tickets to Seattle from Friday to Friday and than had a change of plans so I rebooked them from Wednesday to Wednesday and saw a change of over $250 lower from the first tickets
But it all depends on where you are, airline and where you are going and when.
Also depends on which airline at which city... usually airlines that have large hubs have cheaper rates if flying in, out or change planes at there hub airport.
Dugmor - Orbitz has a handy tool with flexible dates. You can print out the various rates on various days for just a few days or a month. It gives you an oveall view of most of the airlines - I have found a lot of surprises......
Every airline is different - every city is different & every month is different. So, this tool is really great!
