Many rich countries have unacceptably high levels of corruption, but the situation is even worse in poor countries, according to an anti-corruption group which released a survey Tuesday that had Finland as the world?s cleanest nation and Bangladesh as the most corrupt.

After Bangladesh, the worst offenders were Nigeria, Haiti, Paraguay, Myanmar, Tajikistan, Georgia, Cameroon, Azerbaijan, Angola, Kenya and Indonesia ? all scored under two on a scale of one to ten.

Iraq came 113th

TI picked out European nations Greece and Italy as having ?worryingly high? levels of corruption. They came 50th and 35th respectively with scores of 4.3 and 5.3

On this board, they always say Holland is so corrupt, but they went down on the most corrupt country list. So that's a good thing.

USA, the land of the capitalist isn't that clean either. But I'd say the eastern European countries are. Especially the Polish police and if you've ever driven through Poland as a tourist you know why.

Zimbabwe has got to have one of the most corrupt "governments" in the world. Before Mugabe came into power, the Rhodesian dollar was comparable to the American dollar. Twenty three years later and a loaf of bread will set you back over a hundred dollars.

He's been stealing from his people from the very day he came into power.

Greece has some fields i bet is among the most corrupted countries in the whole world for certain things. You can cancel speed tickets easliy, you can get a job in public services if you know some politician, you can get license to build a house in terrorities that is not allowed if you pay certain people. Very big projects end up always on the same selected businessmen (like in italy as well) and so on. These are not exceptions, these are very common. I doubt anyone from my family ever paid any speed ticket Police and legal authorities are not corrupted and that's the most important for me. At least for the moment.

There are different kinds of corruption among countries. You cant compare the unofficial financial support from certain businessmen towards to a US governor or an italian mayor with the crimes commited by nigerian police.

Here's another study i was reading last night regarding the CGD/FP Commitment to Development Index.

It ranks 21 of the world's richest countries according to how much their policies help or hinder the economic and social development of poor nations. The index examines six policy categories: foreign aid, openness to international trade, investment in developing countries, openness to legal immigration, contributions to peacekeeping operations, and responsible environmental practices.

Greece has the higher peacekeeping rank probably in the whole world and Switzerland the lowest. In every war, disaster, earthquake whatever you'll see Greeks.

Denmark and Sweden are by far the countries with the highest Aid support in money terms. (based on their GDP %)

Portugal and Spain score the highest for investments in developing countries which if it's accurate will boost a lot their economies in the near future.

Capitalism is supposed to be the cure...it gives people the power to achieve whatever the hell they want to. In principle, it works, but Dubya has proven that capitalism has gone one step too far in the USA. When politics become a popularity contest, there is a problem...a huge problem...but Arnold and Dubya are not at fault. The fault lies in our ignorance of our own governments (I live in Canada) and subsequent lack of participation. If we educated ourselves, demanded accountability, and actually spoke our minds, we wouldn't have to worry about corruption in developed countries. Listen to Michael Moore, not because of what he believes (he is just another man at another time chasing the opportunity for fame and money, which is exactly what every person on earth is doing) but because he demands participation in every single thing that affects our lives.
