that's like... here. lol, guess i should be watching the news more often.

i'll stick with my samsungs. had them for years, ultra durable and reliable for me.

here's something interesting about cellphones, however. a good reason you don't want to beat them up while they're on a call.

the chip that actually does the communications thingie, while you're making a call, is actually putting out more energy per square something (can't remember... inch, cm, blah blah) THAN THE SURFACE OF THE SUN. hence, very susceptable at that time to breakage.

heh. cool stuff good thing that chip is REALLY small.

Japanese electronics equipment company. They mostly deal in scanners/printers, etc. Based on the story, should stick to those products.

Good post, Iroc409. Building on the energy wave output, there is a new standard called G3 being tested for heavier data transport...problem is it causes nausea... its THAT powerful.

you mean 3G? sprint is using it, i have a 3G phone - the samsung A500. all the fairly recent models in the sprint pcs lineup should have these features, along with GPS for emergency location services (which you can turn off).

3G is awesome. better signal (i'm using it places i couldn't at all before fairly well), and the wireless internet using the built-in browser seems more reliable and faster.

Probably, but there's been European studies showing nausea and headaches due to the strong signal.

lol, you'd have to be on the phone a rediculous amount of time. who does that?

I saw a sign at the gas station yesterday for the first time. Said to turn off my cell phone completely because static electricity could trigger an explosion.

                      Scarry.

                      Spend you some brain.

women catch fire at gas stations.

                        sad, but true

A girl with a Nokia dropped her cellphone in a store, she picked it up again and put it on again to make a call. The phone exploded in her hands while she was holding it next to her head.
It was a Nokia with a backup battery in it...... not sure if it was an original Nokia battery though.

on the gas station issue, they did a special on the news quite some time ago about it. it's quite interesting, actually, and has little to do with cellphones.

this seems to mostly be an issue with newer cars. older cars don't have as much problems with it, because they don't have all the magic wizardry that new cars do.

the victims, however are generally women in the winter time. why? because they're wussies.

when you get out of the newer cars, you're generally charged pretty well with static electricity. this can on rare occasions cause a fire at the nozzle.

the reason mostly women are affected by this, is because often in the winter they don't want to stand outside in the cold for 5 minutes, so they get back in the car. at this time, they are re-charged with static electricity from the car, and the process of getting in and out of the car. then, of course since the car is already fueling, do not properly ground themselves, create a discharge by the fuel fumes at the nozzle and cause a fire.

of course, then they wet their pants (boy or girl), and pull out the nozzle causing instant tragedy.

so, when you're at the gas station, particularly with a newer car, you should always do the following:

ground yourself to the car before starting to fuel. yeah, you might get zapped, but better than being mauled by fire. second, DON'T GET BACK IN THE FREAKING CAR. if you do, make sure and ground yourself again.

if the car does catch fire, go ahead and wet yourself, but don't pull the nozzle out. it seems often the fire will put itself out, but pulling the nozzle out can be catastrophic.

                            just some advice

Yay! And I just paid almost $800 Canadian for this:

                                    http://www.kyocera-wireless.com/7100...one_series.htm

I'm gonna carry this thing with me everywhere now. Hopefully I'll get a nice burn so I can sue and be on easy street.

It figures the first cell phone I bought in 10 years would be of the exploding type.

Myth! They had a special on that on Discovery on friday night abou that. its bs. cell phones will not cause gas vapor to combust.

It's the batteries not the phones that explode

About the gas station thing, a guy who works for the second largest carrier in Australia told me that the risk from phones is more that if they are dropped when powered on and the battery moves sufficiently, it may cause a spark which could ignite vapours.

My local stations have warnings about static electricity and advise people to touch a metal part of the car prior to going anywhere near the petrol cap. (Hmm, does that mean bare metal or will static also conduct through car paint?)
