    hardware question

i have an old PC that has a dead internal clock battery.

now it is having a cmos problem as well ... it does not save my settings when i shut off, then reboot.

i thought that battery is only for the clock? Does it also power the cmos memory?

yes, the CMOS needs constant juice. It's not a flash ROM.

Actually the battery should last 15 years...

well my clock never keeps its setting, and just recently i have this cmos problem.

ok so if i replace this battery, i would prolly get my clock and cmos settings back.

          anything else powered by that?
