    Does anybody actually prefer Real Video?

    I've always thought it kindof sucks ass. RealAudio was kindof cool back in '96, but thats about it.

    Porn always drives new media formats, and the porn industry has never adopted Real Video as a standard format to use, MPEG has been fairly standard, but I see more and more porn sites using .wmv (windows media video) all the time.

    Does anyone else think Real Video is looking more and more like it's going the way Beta did back in the VHS/Beta format wars?

      Why do they and Quicktime have to put some shit in your startup and eat your precious memory???

          I hate real, the player is lame with all the extra crap it wants.

          Win Media Player is much better.

              Thats another thing I don't like about it. It's bloatware (bloated software). Instead of being a quick loading simple application like Winamp, it's just bloated with all sorts of crap I don't want or need.

              Not that I want to promote microsoft, but I think WMV will kick realnetworks ass into bankruptcy within 2 years.

                  I have always hated it, mainly becuase of all the shit they put in it. I don't even have it installed now, when I had it installed and clicked a .rm file by mistake i would groan as rp started the 2 minute loading process

                          And when you remove the quicktime service from the startup, you feel good and think your problem is solved, but the next time you run the player, it'll put itself back into your startup. The geniuses who thought of that should be slapped around.

                          Also, when you install QT, if you choose to NOT let the player play mpegs in webpages, you won't be able to play them with WMP either, it'll go 404. Fuck QT!!!

                              I know what you mean. Every computer I've had since RealNetworks launched RealAudio has taken a while to load the application. Even today, my main computer is a 2.4 GHz with 512mb RAM and it still chugs away when loading that shitty software.

                              In the past 3 years, RealNetworks has never made a profit, and has lost over $220 million, I doubt they'll ever make a profit again, yet the company is still valued at over $1 billion. Seems like a possible short-sell candidate to me!

                              Microsoft will destroy RealNetworks within 2 years.

                                  I groan when RealPlayer starts up. When Quicktime starts up, I just fucking close the page. Forget it - I'm not sitting there for two frigging minutes.

                                  WMV all the way. Starts right up, it's slim, when it's finished it's finished and doesn't leave shit hanging around eating up resources.
