I have a UMAX 2100U which I got a few years ago, never had any problems or complaints against it, used it mostly for scanning black and white, although I think its color scanning could be better, but I think thats because I was using the internal WindowsXP interface to it, instead of the provided software. But definitely check out some UMAX options, reasonably priced, last a long time, and overall very hassle free scanners. imo.Comment

One other consideration I've noticed besides resolution and price is scan speed. Which make and model offers the best speed while having good resolution (for B & W) and is affordable?
