When governments turn on their people

for a year now, the Hawai'i state governement has been bitching about the enormous price of gas here, I can only assume to get back the good graces of the people that live here. Well it's worked. No one's disputing that the shit is well beyond insane. Yet they have done nothing to correct it. Well.... okay, that's typical. Hell, they even shot down a bill to put a cap on the shit. Not a wise move.

But now.... the police need a raise. And no one is arguing that either. They deserve everything they get. However, there's no money that can be pulled from anywhere to make this happen, so what did they do? They're talking about raising the fucking gas taxes to pay for these raises.

And that went over like a dead fucking body. It seems the entire state is turning against its own government now. And rightfully so. This fucking bs method of running the state government needs to fucking stop. Promises promises promises.... then fuckin' ram it in when we're bent over the other way trying to pick up a penny.

The same shit happens more or less in every state in our fine country.

The equivalent of corrupt politicians saying "I'll be back" but never coming back around.

The American people have sat on their asses for what... 30, 40, maybe 50 years without real concern for our country.

Hell, people will vote in arnold just because of that new bogus gallop poll that "Ensures an a swift defeat & easy victory for Arnold!"...

people are too lazy/busy to research the candidates themselves, so they believe in the polls & go with the consensus.

.. yo what did that poll say again? Who we sposed to vote for? Ah.. rite.. arnold. Ok then.. recall davis, go arnold!! Terminiate the budget ahahah!! thats great!! TErminator in the hizzouse!!

          We're doomed.

well, I don't know about a revolution.... but they definately need to find somewhere else to get that money. The fucking gas prices here have gone just about as far as people will tolerate.

The shit part of it is like I said, for a fucking year now they've "supposedly" been on our side with the gas issue.... but as soon as they need to dip into the coffee can for something, all that goes out the fucking window? So we've just been spoon fed lies all this time? WTF?

they report our state's prices by O'ahu... which is understandable, but not accurate. They're typically a little bit less than us. I don't know what O'ahu's at currently, but here on Maui, a gallon of 93 runs around $3.10 I think.... not positive on the exactness of that, I haven't been out in a while....

blame Opec they are slowing the amount of oil produced to raise the cost of the oil... and they do it all the time..

Opec it's a fine example of how corrupt the worlds govts are... if the govts wern't there wouldn't be a country out there that would allow an organization to dictate the world prices on something that every country can't do with out.
In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.

And what exactly would we do to get the oil if we suddenly didn't have a government?

And you think price caps would solve the problem? Price caps would just create shortages and long gas lines and destroy shipping and commerce.

The best thing your government could do is disband.

I don't know where YOU are, but here... we need a fucking gas cap. It's not gonna create shortages, it's not gonna destroy shipping. Our situation is a little more unique than say, Alabama. Nearly everything we have is brought in on ships, with the exception of coconuts and pineapples. Maybe a cap would hurt YOU where you are... but we're begging for one here.

Well aside from gasoline prices being high, it is ridiculous to raise them higher and further push an issue which has alienated the voters from the government. They could certainly raise taxes on anything, but why do it on an existing problem that?s the real stupidity of this government. Hell misappropriation and government are synonymous.

The more liberal the state, the bigger the money problem.
                                california, hawaii, etc.

the democratic sheep keep voting for politicians that promise them free this and free that.
oops, nothing is free? who knew?

Well in general when was the last time an elected official was truly able to change their state or locality for the better, where the changes were a direct result of their policy changes, instead of simply riding on the coat tails of a generally improved economy?

well, the truck is a necessity, because it's just us here relying on ourselves... not like I got a buddy down the block I can call to haul stuff when I need it. But we get a little reprieve in that, it's somewhat a small island.... there's only so far we can actually drive, unlike back in Cali where it's nothing to put on over a hundred miles a day.

Opec it's a fine example of how corrupt the worlds govts are... if the govts wern't there wouldn't be a country out there that would allow an organization to dictate the world prices on something that every country can't do with out.
the problem with blaming opec and the oil companies is that an average of over 40% of the price you pay at the pumps is generated by TAXES. Local, State and Federal. It's pretty funny that the liberals always point to the Bush "oil club" as pushing up prices when these prices would be HALF what they are if we didn't have Libs pushing all the taxation higher for every overbudgeted social program that they can think up.

A price cap? Real easy. You want the price to go down, you don't have to even TOUCH the free market (and all of the nightmares that THAT would cause.) All you need to "cap" is the goverment taxes that are raping your ass at the pumps.

If you cap the price that a seller can sell his product for, less of that product will be sold. Or do you think sellers are gonna sell the same amount at a lower price? Maybe you weren't paying attention in the 70s when we tried this under Carter and there were constant shortages.

There's nothing you can do about the relationship between price caps and shortages -- it's simple economics. Supply curve slope and all that. You have a better chance of building a faster-than-light-speed space ship with General Clark than arguing an immutable law of economics.

Exactly right, and then add to that analysis the fact that we're not allowed to build any more refineries -- that's the step in the production process which is slowing getting all that gas to market to meet demand. Thank the leftist EPA and greenies for that bullshit.

Economics should be mandatory, but of course the government has a vested interest in keeping the masses economically ignorant, hence you'll never see real economics in government (public) schools.

When politicians have favors to sell, people will be willing to buy them.
