so count me as just one more webmaster who is irritated enough by the neverending flash banners and the "suck my dick bitch" screaming punk music that i stopped watching ads.
I'd be willing to bet that every advertiser on here would be happy to have me see their sig and send them some traffic... i imagine the same goes for quiet.. and numerous others i have seen.
Alas, the actions of a few have made sure that i'll never see another new product ad. In fact not just sigs.. i actually AVOID even letting my mouse near the main ads because some of them are so fuckin loud and annoying that if i'm listening to music on my computer it blasts over it.

i'm sure we could come up with plenty of scenarios where the sounds can do wrong even if there arent kids in the room.

My kid doesnt have to be in the same room to hear some bullshit 'fuck yea' banner blurting out my speakers. I play my music kinda loud... so i usually have my volume up. I have logitech z-60 speakers... my whole house can hear what music I play. I like to listen to music while I surf, and I'll be damned if I have to turn my music volume down because of some asshole sound banner.
Unwelcomed sounds are intrusive, period. I only expect to hear sound on my PC when I play music, or watch a movie. I have all other sound events disabled. I hate going to some dopey flash site that has 10 different choices of music playing with 20 different mouseover sounds for every other fucking button. You wanna give me a fucking choice, then give me a choice to turn the music ON, not OFF.
Its one thing to hear it unexpectedly when you purposely mouse over a banner, its another when you ACCIDENTALY mouse over. Sounds in banners are fucking GAY. i hate that shit too.
I have music on 24 hours a day, and usually pretty loud. I even sleep with music on.
And at least 10 times a day I fucking get hit with one of those fucking GFY banner sounds, and it really fucking blows.
Not only do they try and pick the dumbest sounds, its usually some amateurish implementation, the sounds are too loud and clearly placed by inexperienced people.
I predicted this with the first banner though. I said it would get worst ;)

Banners with sounds are an annoying pain in the ass.. Its funny how when there were banners with sounds aimed at surfers it was said it was a crappy idea (by many webmasters)
Then voila! now us webmasters get banners with fucking sound.. Sorry to say but it makes me wanna join the program even less..

I monitor my kids online and make sure they do not go to adult sites as all parents should.
But this is 2 different things entirely,
