what a sad attempt to toe the liberal line. Chaney has no financial ties to that company what so ever.

Ok,,, I promised myself I wouldn't but here it goes

I have the perfect answer to the Welfare program

1, Raise taxes and offer free medical (lot of people end up on welfare because a huge hospital bill)

2, If somebody applies for Welfare benefits they have to list all of their relatives. Those relatives than are considered when paying them welfare. For instance.

Jane's boyfriend left and stuck her with 2 kids and no childs support. She applies for welfare. Now she has to put down all her relatives and her childrens relatives, parents of boyfriends, sister of boyfriends, her blood relatives etc etc

Now the welfare department sends out notices of garnishment of those relatives paycheck in the amount of 10% to help Jane or asking those relatives if they have a place for Jane to stay, food, clothing etc etc

That would drop the welfare abuse 50%

3, If you are on welfare you have to do work for the government. Clean streets, clean public bathrooms, help as a volunteer in school, etc etc, whatever the government needs you for. If you have small children the government will offer free daycare until age 13 in order for you to go to work, find a job, do you duties for the state etc etc (that alone will make people get up and find a job even if its outside their experience)

      So --

      RAISE TAXES

Offer free childcare until age 13

Offer free medical any income group

Go after relatives for money of those who apply for Welfare.

Free College to commited and smart students for any income

I know its not a popular notion, however it works in Germany

But than we in Germany also pay a shitload of taxes

paying more taxes is not the answer.

Stop giving any form of aid is the only answer.
when you have the choice of "get a job or die" its amazing how easy it is to get work.

Why go after relatives? If I have a deadbeat cousin with whom I have nothing to do and who I really dislike, how am I more responsible for that person that the rest of the country?

Stop giving houses to people on welfare.

Want welfare? Cool. Get in that skyscraper and you can eat chicken and spaghetti every day. You don't need a 2 or 3 bedroom house built especially for rejects who can't support themselves so they don't feel like rejects, you don't need to eat steak and lobster and you don't need a fucken broadband connection. You need a job.

So you're saying that a woman who is married to a man who appears to be stable, kind and who has a job should not have sex with him? What planet are you from, again?

I don't think it's reasonable to expect a woman to abstain from sex with her husband if she wants children and the home life seems to be perfectly satisfactory for such. Do you?

I mean the timing wasn't great when I got pregnant the second time because I still had a child in diapers, but I DID want more children. And at the time I thought the family life was fine.

He changed. Alot. I didn't see it coming. No one could.

tootie, don't let them worry you. especially not 12clicks who pisses people off professionally my girlfriend had the same thing happen. she was on welfare for just over a year.

                      1. she got off welfare, so it can be done with the right kind of help but it DID take help 'cause you can't work AND watch your kids

                      2. the welfare covered her rent on a pretty lousy apartment plus $200 a month and $200 in foodstamps. most guys here believe that people on welfare are living high on the hog 'cause they don't really have any experience - just what they read or believe.

don't fret it. they will believe what they want but it has nothing to do with you or your life.

poverty is a quite wide theme to speakabout.

but I think the main idea is that if there were no pevery, there were no rich people as well.

as far as everything in this system depends at each other.

I mean there are 2 sides of each coins you may find.

All the bitching about rich people not paying enough taxes.. Listen up fuckers, until you know what it feels like to pay over $100,000 a year in taxes... shut the fuck up your opinion doesn't mean shit.

Our country might be fucked but raising taxes isn't the solution. Fixing a corrupt, wasteful government is.

Well I was hoping this Frankenstein Thread I created would end by now but I can now see a response I also agree with.

We're overtaxed because we're mismanaged. Mismanagement comes from stupidity, corruption, coercion, indifference.

Americans don't stand up and shout. Here you can tax us up the whazoo, blow up our cities, force parents to put their kids on psychiatric drugs and no one bitches...

YET, you put ONE woman on tv nude and watch people come outta the woodwork. We can have the Attorney General start a task force to wipe out porn but no task force to wipe out tax or government corruption. Where're our heads at???

Misdirected attention is indicative of source intention. If your head's up someone else's ass it's because that's what's foremost on your mind.

( yes that is the funniest thing I've written in a lonnng time. )

I'm still into the German model...

High taxes and the highest rate of unemployment (of G7 nations)... a negative birth rate.... and a dismal GDP.

Not to mention immigration... Germany will soon be a Muslim 'state'.

                                Yeah... that's what I want!

Christ... when it's all said and done... in addition to paying personal and corporate income taxes... we pay property taxes, sales taxes, luxury taxes and all kinds of other stuff that really takes away another 5-10% of our overall income.

I certainly don't think poor people should pay more taxes.. but I sure as hell don't like getting ass raped every year and watching our government piss the money away studying why chickens cross the road... when we've got schools where they don't even have enough money to give the kids books.

                                  Cheers,

try to imagine the situation you have no place to go for a night, not even a penny in your pocket and you are in the big city.

                                    having imagined?

this is quite not cozy feeling, you know.

                                      - In Australia, the top tax rate is 50% which you reach after earning around $40k USD

                                      - Most people pay around 50c in the dollar tax, total. (this includes income tax and supply side taxes such as sales tax, luxury cars tax etc...)

                                      - The AU government concluded that top income earners who were taxed at 50% and then pay supply side tax end up paying 90% of their income in taxes, and at this level people lose interest in working (a duh - 50% overall is pretty damn high)

                                      - In the USofA, taxes are lower, but you can also see an increasing spread of prosperity. There are lots of wealthy people, but an increasingly disproportionate amount of people with not a hell of a lot.

                                      - Scandanavian countries, and other European countries as I'm aware of it, can have some pretty crazy amounts of income tax. 50% is not a lot, I've read top tax rates are 80%! - But on the flip side of the coin, they also have excellent healthcare systems, solid educational institutions, low crime rates, and amoungst the bests standards of living in the world.

Hard to know really what's best - governments sure do waste a lot of money - but there is definitely some correlation between tax rates vs standard of living of the overall community

                                        from the article:
Cheney has insisted in the past that the deferred compensation was set up long before he became a candidate for the vice presidency. The money is insured in case the company goes under and Lautenberg acknowledged that the compensation received so far has been donated to charity.

Lautenberg said Halliburton stock options held by Cheney were 100,000 shares at $54.50 per share, 33,333 shares at $28.125 and 300,000 shares at $39.50 per share.

Halliburton (HAL: Research, Estimates) stock closed Thursday at $24.72.

so now he has to give back income (in the form of stock options) he recieved before becoming vice president to make you morons happy?
                                        typical.
you understand the options are worthless, right?

Actually, the same thing happened to me. My ex was making over $100K a year (and this was back in the early 80's when that was a decent amount of money) and decided to put it all up his nose - including his company. The house was in my name so when he left, he had no "legal" financial obligations. The court system in Atlanta is so backed up that it took almost year to get a divorce.

I put the house on the market for what I owed on it. It sold the next day. I just needed to get rid of the housepayment as this was back when interest rates were around 14%.

Started calling around looking for roommates, found an old college friend and we split a 3 BR townhome for $500 (my housepayment had been around $1000). I had a huge garage sale, ate a lot of Mac n Cheese, drank a lot of water, used cloth diapers I washed myself (yuck!), and did a lot of other cost cutting. I hadn't worked in years, so I had to start near minimum wage which was somewhere around $4.25 an hour. I busted my butt and was constantly looking for another job. Never went on welfare, never got WIC, food stamps - any government help at all.

Not a dime from my family - they were ticked off I didn't marry "someone" and as far as they were concerned, I got what I had coming.

I don't have a college degree, I had no experience except waitressing and I couldn't work past 6 - when daycare closed. This is why I don't have much sympathy for those that are on welfare for years. If *I* can do it, why can't they?

We didn't have a mortgage. We lived in a trailer. Didn't have two car payments which total $700 monthly. We had one car payment, which was between $100-200, I don't know the specifics. Electric was probably around $70 weekly. Food was around $75, my mom is the best bargain shopper I've ever seen.

We still had birthdays. Still had Christmas. Still had special treats every now and then.

Again, $21k is not poverty. I think some of you people really need to live without money to see how things really work. What a joke...
I agree, some people on here are clueless but you have to take into consideration the government has a very explicit description of poverty for tax purposes.

WELL SAID!!! I shall hoist my goblet of 'Blood Wine' to you!!

My main point for YEARS was about the high tax rate in some European countries BUT the SERVICE you got in return was by far worth it! As a fine artist I would get invited to go live in other countries just to paint, draw and teach. I couldn't figure this out being an average american kid why countries like Switzerland and Sweden would send me these big ass official letters with invitations and bank accounts already prepared. Then one of my cousins had to explain it to me that these countries value quality in all arts from fine arts to culinary to music to fashion etc. So I was honored but love the U.S.A. so when I inquired as to what it was like to live in these countries that '50%' tax was a big NO!

So a pal of mine who's a capt. in the Navy told me,

" Dude, that 50% may sound like alot, BUT when the garbage man comes around to pick up the trash they do it with a smile and don't spill shit! "

In other words the people of these countries cared enough to manage the tax revenue with courtesy and care.

THAT'S the big difference and that's why the standard of living of these countries is so admired. Simple physics: THEY CARE.
