    My Tivo has died..

I watched my first commercial in two years today.

Time to crack this thing open and do a "Tim Allen" on it.

is tivo superior or the same as my pvr?

my personal video recorder tapes tv shows to a harddrive,

and lets you rewind live tv and pause live tv,

and you can fast forward through the comercials if the shows is saved,

              ??

anyways mine broke 4 times, but I got refurbished replacements for free from the Bell,

I never could get mine to "talk" to the satellite box. Changing channels through TiVo was absurdly slow and I had to manually change a channel for recording. Thankfully the modem blew out in a storm so I had an excuse to buy the one that's integrated with DirecTV! MUCH BETTER! Plus it downloads off the sat dish and since the TiVo numbers are all long distance for me, and I can't place the call with a calling card, it's saving me about $20 a month. AND DirecTV doesn't charge for it - saving me ANOTHER $12 a month!

TiVo's are THE greatest thing since the microwave. You never have to watch a commercial, you can do the season pass thing, search for movies/shows by name, etc.

                  I LOVE TiVo!!!

Maybe it's just the harddrive that crashed! Other than that...who the hell knows, can you throw that shit in a computer?

Here are a couple of TiVo "repair" sites:

                          http://www.tivofaq.com/hack/faq.html
                          http://www.9thtee.com/tivoupgrades.htm

I was going to open mine and work on the modem, but one it had more than one step, it was out of my realm. I still have it - maybe one day I'll get bored and take it apart.

                            TiVo DVR

It has a hard drive that records and a more advanced programming box. Which I dont know how to work all the way.

I know our HD crashed and burned on us earlier this year. We were able to download some software and put it on a new HD and it worked great in the Tivo. Now we've got about 80 hours of space on ours I think.

I couldn't live without mine. Now I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it to get a 2nd one for the office.

I believe that the only country besides the US where TiVo is available right now is the UK. Call the TiVo people and pester them though because I bet they will look to expand if enough people let them know there is a market.

They're still around $199 for the cheapest model. A $100 price point would really help them out. I'm surprised that they don't have a small HD model for $99.

I've got digital cable, and we have DVR built into our cable box. I don't know what I'd do without it. Now I can record and program my own backgroud noise

I had TIVO for like a year before mine died also. The modem blew out. Was stupid and bought that "LIFETIME" subscription. Fuck up part is that i didn't know it comes with the box and not the account. Why the hell would i want to buy a lifetime on electronics that would need an upgrade in 3 months?? bitched and moan at TIVO and still didn't get it back

So the next day i went ahead and bought
                                                Ultimate TV by M$

I think its superior to TIVO. I believe its one of the best M$ ever put out. Too bad its discontinued and they don't sell it anymore.
and i only pay an extra $10 a month

It's a device that records (whatever you are watching) to a hard drive. So you can pause shows, rewind, etc. Hard drives die from time to time.
