I've found that just beating the piss out of your computer is very effective.

i got so fed up with spam i bought a domain i use it for submissions and delete it on the server. The rest i try and keep on top of by unsubscribing although it can easily get out of hand.

spam assasin on the mail server would cut it down about 85 - 90% without blocking normal emails

I like spampal which uses a combination of multiple blocklists and a Regex filter. It is free and written by James Farmer, a well known spam fighter. You can download here it here http://www.spampal.org. Here is an interesting comparison of various anti-spam progams> http://www.spampal.de/comparison-chart.html

Don't stop with just blocking spam. Report the assholes sending it. I recommend spamcop.net. They have a free service and $15 deal for spam reporting or you can get a filtered email account for $30 a year. The Spammers on this board HATE spamcop. That should tell you something.

Another good place to report spammers and put them on the radar is

                    http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...buse.sightings Registration is free.

                    Good luck..

I have found it to be the best thing I've tried. I prob get 1k spam emails a day and only 1 or 2 end up in the inbox. It uses some P2P technology that seems to work pretty well.

Yeah, I can recommend SpamAssassin as well. I've gone from several hundred spams per day to perhaps 25-30. That's manageable.

IMO 25-30 is still to many

Perhaps. But, I figure some will *always* get through, no matter how good the filtering or blocking. And the more aggressive you get with filtering, the higher the risk for false positives.

I'd rather make sure I get the one email I really wanted, than worry about a few extra spams per day.

SPAM Assassin (SA) is deployed on all our hosting accounts. SA tags it and one filter in my email client dumps all the SPAM in my trash bin and deletes the remote copy so I never have to deal with it. Plus all our accounts have great filtering software which allows for even greater scrubbing of SPAM. I get so little SPAM that I actually check my trash bin to make sure it's all SPAM

I use this one, I believe it costs something like 2.95 dollar a month. You should mind though that in the beginning lots of affiliate program newsletters are considered as spam, but if you unblock them they will get trough in the future.
One thing I don't get. I can block and unblock things and it will only affect my emails, but sometime it is also repored to CloudMark itself so everyone will get the same action as I performed. It is not consequently used everytime I use an action. But who cares, it works very good after all :D

                                            Cloudmark doesn't.
I think most don't, since the margins are already low since people don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on spam filters. Those who are that expensive don't run affiliate programs, but use exclusive partners.
