For the most part the prisoners are from various countries around the world and are al Qaeda trained personell...some may be Taliban fighters...but they are still being sorted out. Some that were Taliban fighters have already been released and as they are sorted out there may be more Taliban fighters released.

har har: have you read the geneva convention lately? it is indeed OK and LEGAL to detain enemy combatants, as long as they are treated well. i will agree that the prisoners in guantanamo bay may not have the best of living conditions but they could certainly be in a whole lot worse shape. at least they see the light of day. do you know how america treats thier highest level of prisoners? do a little reading on a prison in "leavenworth, kansas" and you will see they aint got it all that in the least.
as far as my outlook on the situation in general regarding the terrorist bullshit. well if someone came to my house and killed my family and friends.... id go to thiers, and kill thier mother, father, wife(s), children, and any fucking aquaintance of thiers i could find. maybe a more fitting death would be to round them all up in a house, bar them in it, and douse it with gasoline.
those prisoners will have thier day in court(i hope) but who knows what will happen as far as them recieving a fair trial as americas judicial system is lacking greatly.
every man or woman who has doned a US military uniform was fully aware when they put it on that they may not come home, may never see thier loved ones or thier homeland ever again. they also know that being captured by the enemy may lead to a lifetime of torture(POW/MIA;s from Vietnam learned this) but that is a risk they are willing to take. the taliban and al queda troops knew this was the case as well. the seperation is created in the fact that the american troops know that they would face a whole hell of a lot worse treatment then the enemy would.
there is a concept known as "guilt by association" these enemy combatants were fighting on the side of a losing army(the taliban) or they were members of a group that was hell bent on destroying our way of life. when they choose to be part of a group that was going to war with a fucking giant they should have weighed the risks involved. its not like it should have been a surprise to be taken prisoner. now if you run with a bad crowd you are associated with them. and consequently you will get treated like them as well.

America, the Red Cross, Christian Children's fund and MANY others, do all we can to help people starving in other countries, but it's not America's responsibility to take care of that, it's that country's government. America is just being humane by giving assistance.
I don't have pedicures or live in the lap of luxury like you said... so that's how ignorant YOU are. I never said that everyone supports the war, but if you are a tax payer, you damn sure are PAYING for it. WE all share a country, right or wrong. I don't think many homeless people choose to be homeless. It's easy to say anyone can work their way up but that's simply not true, especially in this Bush economy. I can't help the homeless, unless they are mentally challenged, they choose to live that way. I had nowhere to live a few years ago too... no one gave me shit. I worked for what I have now and they can do the same.
America, the Red Cross, Christian Children's fund and MANY others, do all we can to help people starving in other countries, but it's not America's responsibility to take care of that, it's that country's government. America is just being humane by giving assistance.
I don't have pedicures or live in the lap of luxury like you said... so that's how ignorant YOU are. I never said that everyone supports the war, but if you are a tax payer, you damn sure are PAYING for it. WE all share a country, right or wrong. I didn't say WE all have the same views and WE all share the same beliefs, but WE as a nation contribute to the war, one way or another.

Not everyone has opportunity in America. There are no streets paved in gold anymore. It's at least partially the fault of the big corporations using foreign labor instead of domestic labor. We're just continuing to pump money out of our economy into foreign countries. The money that is saved in paying $0.10 an hour instead of $6 an hour goes right back into the companies for reinvestment into the foreign labor, etc. Trying to give the consumers less and less money while trying to get more and more out of them is just an economic disaster waiting to happen.Originally posted by theking
