Good point. But back in the day if you had culture, art & great buildings - but weak warriors to defend it, then it was only a matter of time before someone would come along and rock your world.
Eventually since warrior clans are on top of the food chain they wind up assimilating most of the best minds of other cultures/countries etc into their own (because those people don't want to die, or starve or whatever)... and everyone else gets left in the dust.. while the new group grows and prospers on the combined cultures of all its past victories.
Maybe we're not as civilized as we'd liked to think we are

Please notice the U-turn that the American press has taken after Saddam was removed. Now they suddenly want us to believe that they weren't so supportive of the war in the first place. Articles like this one starts popping up all over the place. BEFORE the war, it was a completely different kettle of fish.
